Why the Office is an Amazing Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

The Office is probably my favorite show of all time. I’ve re-watched it about five times, and  I watch this show whenever I’m sad because it never fails to make me a little bit happier. So here are a few reasons why I think it’s an amazing show. Obviously there are more, but these are some of the main ones.

1. Michael Scott.

Michael Scott is just an amazing character, and there should be no further explanation needed. His social awkwardness is something we can all relate to, and no matter how annoying or strange he is; everyone in the office loves him. From the very first season, we see him grow as a character and watch him struggle as he tries to find the person he’s going to spend the rest of his life with.  He really cares about his friends and would do anything for them.

2. Jim and Pam’s Relationship.

Everytime I watch this show, I tear up a little bit at all the sweet Jim and Pam moments. My favorite moment is when he kisses her on the episode “Casino Night.” I feel like this is what most people want in a relationship; someone they can be best friends with. Jim and Pam’s story also teaches us so much about love: they teach us that sometimes you have to just be patient and wait. You have to fight for what you really want. The timing isn’t always going to line up exactly.

Jim teaches us how a woman should be treated. He is so in love with her and would do anything for her; don’t settle for someone who doesn’t treat you with as much love and respect as Jim treats Pam with.

They also teach us that a relationship isn’t perfect. There are going to be rough patches, but they show us that you don’t just give up. You work through it because when you really love someone, you never give up. They show us what true love looks like.

3. Dwight Schrute.

Dwight is one of my favorite characters on the show. His social awkwardness is almost worse than Michael’s, but every time he has a line in the show, it’s sure to make everyone laugh. He’s so oblivious of social cues and is awesomely weird in his own way. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks about him; he owns his oddness.

Despite that, Dwight is an amazing friend.  He’s there for Pam when she is crying, and despite the fact that “she married his enemy,” she’s one of the closest friends he has.  He is always willing to help Michael with whatever, no matter what. One amazing quality Dwight displays is loyalty. We can also watch his character development, from wanting the manager position to his trouble with loving Angela. It’s really amazing to see how far he reached by the final episode of the season.

4. Jim and Dwight’s Friendship.

Jim and Dwight have the friendship that everyone is jealous of. They always bicker and are constantly playing pranks on each other, but they come together when it is truly important and necessary. That’s clear especially in the last episode of the series. They’re really close friends even though it may not seem like it. This is really obvious towards the end of the show. Jim and Dwight never fail to make me laugh.

5.  Creed.

Creed is one of the most under-appreciated characters in this show, but his one-liners make any episode that he’s in a little bit funnier. He’s a minor character in the show, but he never fails to impress.  One of the best episodes is when he becomes manager for a few days.

6. The Family Atmosphere.

I think we all wish that we were as close as this cast is with our own coworkers. From Friends to How I Met Your Mother, I think it’s clear that we all desire that group of friends who are like a family to us. The Office shows us how such long-lasting bonds can be made even with the people you work with. It is a show that you can watch over and over and never get sick of.  So if you’re looking for something to binge watch, I would recommend either starting this show, or re-watching it again.
