The World of Thrifting in St. Pete

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Whether you’re on a budget or looking for something unique, thrifting is always a fun activity. As a resident of the St. Pete area for over two years now, I have become familiar with all the best thrifting spots. Personally, I enjoy hunting at both vintage stores (a bit pricier, but more curated) and thrift stores, so I have compiled the ultimate list for you to reference when in need of a good thrift store in St. Pete.

Sunshine Thrift Stores

Sunshine Thrift was the very first thrift store I visited in town. I was able to find a few pieces that I still wear today and that are staples in my closet. I even got one of my favorite vests at a discount when I showed them some minor damage on it. The store is well organized, especially because it is sorted by size, unlike most other thrift stores. You won’t have to spend all day going through every piece of clothing to find fun stuff! Not to mention the staff are so kind!

CASA Thrift Boutique

CASA is not too far from USFSP, and it has a variety of furniture, décor, and clothing. This is the perfect store if you’re in the mood for some “treasure hunting.” Personally, this thrift store has been a bit of a hit or miss to me, but it’s always fun to go on the hunt!

Wendy’s Closet

Wendy’s Closet is more of a curated vintage store rather than a traditional thrift store. It’s a bit pricier than the traditional stores, but all their pieces are already organized and thrifted for you. The store has so many fun secondhand pieces! It is also along the route of the St. Pete SunRunner, by Tombolo Books and the 3D Café. You can make a whole trip out of going to this thrift store!

St. Vincent de Paul CARES Community Thrift Store

If you’re on the hunt for something different, this is the store for you. The store has a wide variety of eclectic goods, ranging from clothing to furniture to unique knick-knacks. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They also have a wide variety of brands and sizes for their clothing.

Out of the Closet

Not only does this thrift store sell clothing, books, and housewares, but their profits also go to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The store has frequent sales and a rewards program you can sign up for. They have so many unique things to find and it’s always exciting when you’re able to get your hands on a good piece!

Thrifting is always a fun activity and it helps the environment in the process; with this list you should be able to find some really great eco-friendly finds. There’s also more to check out in town, like Goodwill, and in the Tampa area (if you’re in the mood for a drive). Thrifting is one of my favorite ways to shop, but finding a place to start can be a bit overwhelming. So hopefully, this list will help you master the art of second-hand shopping!
