Super Bowl XLVII: Beyonce Performs for Millions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

When you think of the Super Bowl half-time show you think extreme; flashing lights, fire, smoke, amazing graphics, and an over-the-top performance. Super Bowl XLVII’s half-time performance by Beyoncé was no exception to this stereotype. Her 13+ minute performance covered a range of her hit songs, from “Crazy in Love” to “Baby Boy” to “Single Ladies” with show-stopping theatricality. While many questioned whether or not Beyoncé would be lip syncing her performance after her ordeal at President Obama’s inauguration, it is clear that Beyoncé gave the performance of her life without any vocal help. On the subject of an incredible performance, we must talk about the reuniting of Destiny’s Child! Despite denying rumors that DC was getting back together, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams made an appearance on stage singing songs by both Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé’s solo career.

Yet not all were pleased with such an outstanding performance; just into the third quarter, the stadium experienced a partial blackout, leaving half of the stadium in darkness without any communications from announcers, coaches, or referees. Commentators suggested that the expansive performance given by Beyoncé used too much electricity and blacked out the stadium, in effect causing a massive inconvenience to the more important part of the night. Whatever the cause of the blackout was, Beyoncé in no part ought to be blamed; her performance was entrancing, creative, and full of all the songs we know and love.

What many want to know after seeing such an incredible performance is this: what does that woman do for cardio? After running, dancing, jumping, and booty shaking all over that stage, she was still able to sing her heart out without any major gasps for breath. What is even more impressive is her post-birth figure in that leather and lace outfit, having given birth to her first daughter Blue Ivy just over a year ago. Whatever Beyoncé is doing, it is definitely working—her Super Bowl performance is one for the record books. Jay-Z is a lucky man!
