The Super Bowl of award shows, the Oscars, will air Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. All of Hollywood’s elite don the most elegant designer gowns for the infamous stroll down the red carpet, clinging to the chance of winning the biggest achievement of their career. Join in the excitement and celebrate the Oscars this year by hosting a party from the comfort of your home.

Ideally, prepare for the evening a week beforehand, so that on the night of the party you can relax with your guests. Invitations should be sent out a week in advance and you could keep it simple by sending them an invite via Facebook. This saves money and makes it easier for your friends to RSVP. The dress code should be relaxed, but fun, so tell your friends to wear comfy pajamas paired with costume jewelry. Also, plan for your guests to show up an hour before the show to catch the best and worst of the Hollywood red carpet.
Serve finger foods during the party. Homemade cheese sticks, French macaroons and cupcakes are great options. Or you can opt for the classics—pizza, chips or pigs in a blanket. Pair the snacks with homemade party punch, pink champagne or draft beer.
Between the best foreign film and best documentary award, the party may start to head south. Keep things interesting by having your friends fill out ballots about who they think will earn the Oscar in each category. For those who don’t mess around with their Oscar parties, create a bracket board similar to March Madness and let the competition begin.
Whether you plan on hosting a glamorous, Hollywood-worthy party or spending the evening with Chinese takeout, tune in to the show that generates buzz for weeks to come.
