A Review of the Cassis American Brasserie Bakery

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Be prepared to feed your sweet tooth ladies and gentlemen! Over the weekend, I stumbled upon a little bakery while walking down Beach Drive. Inside the shop was a wide array of baked goods, fresh drinks, and homemade ice cream! Cassis is based off of the traditional European Brasseries and they mix in the relaxed American feel. Everything is made in house so you know everything is fresh. Here is the Cassis American Brasserie’s menu:

HOMEMADE BREAD
Baguette
Walnut and raisin bread
Whole Wheat
Multi-Grain

HOMEMADE PASTRIES
Cookies
Biscotti
Croissant
Chocolate croissant
Raisin roll
Macaroon
Fruit Tart
Mille Feuille
Apple Tart
Éclair
Quiche

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM & SORBET

SPECIALITY COFFEE DRINKS
Regular coffee
Espresso
Cappuccino
Café latte
Café Mocha
Hot chocolate
Americano
Macchiato
Tea

You have the option of either sitting outside on the patio, or the barstools that are on the inside while enjoying your treats. Either way, the staff tries to make sure you always dine in a friendly, welcoming environment to enjoy some European treats. Cassis has a really relaxed feel both inside and out, and the people behind the counter are always smiling and ready to be of service. What makes this place special is that at the Cassis they have a little something for everyone. Also, a good thing to point out is that samples are given for the ice cream so you can make sure you like what want before you buy it.

Some reviews of the bakery are:

Ryan Z. says, “Cassis is great. Specifically the bakery. I had the most brilliant of ice cream concoctions I’ve had in my entire life – pistachio mildly cheesecake almonds. Every desert is delightful.”

Bryan B. says, “I like the Cassis bakery because it has great food, and tons of night life. The ice cream was phenomenal, and is decently priced. Then while you eat you can look out the windows into downtown St. Petersburg. It’s a great place for a date night!”

The Cassis bakery is a true gem in downtown St. Petersburg, and they have a great product. However, some people may be a little put off by some of the prices. Do remember though that you get what you pay for, and these treats according to many rave reviews, are worth it.
