New Year’s Resolution Ideas

It is already the third week of 2016 and the first week of classes for the semester at USFSP. Although the New Year has already begun, it’s never too late to make a New Year’s resolution! Resolutions are fun, exciting and, most importantly, motivating. Check out this list of resolutions, hopefully you will find one that suits you for the New Year!

#1: Exercise more and eat better

Obviously this is one of the more common New Year’s resolutions, but there is a reason for that; exercising more and eating better will really help you out in the long run (no pun intended). When you work out and eat right, you’ll feel better, be more confident and you’ll have more energy for school!

#2: Get a job and/or save money

I’m realizing that as I get older, I want to buy more and more stuff. Shoes, clothes, purses, music, makeup, etc. But guess what? All of those things cost money. So one of my resolutions this year is to try to find a job and/or save money. It is important to save money because you’ll never know when you’re going to have a “rainy day” where you’re going to need money. Also, if you get the chance, google “The 365 Penny Challenge.” It’s a really cool way to save money easily and your bank account will thank you later!

#3: Be a better student

This is the perfect resolution for the new semester! Don’t procrastinate as much (something I need to work on), stay more organized, perfect your study skills and become more involved at school. So, improve yourself to become a better student.

#4: Enjoy life

This is my favorite resolution because the opportunities are endless with this one! You can enjoy life by volunteering, giving back to your community, by traveling (something I definitely want to do this year) or even by trying to meet new people (who knows, you might find a new best friend). So don’t just stay in your room all day; get out there and enjoy life!

#5: Take care of yourself

And finally, the last New Year’s resolution: take better care of yourself! This is my New Year’s resolution for the year. Ever since I started college last semester, I haven’t been sleeping as much as I should and I find myself more stressed than relaxed. So my goal this year is to not stress out so easily and make sure I’m resting my body and my mind enough so I can have enough energy throughout the day. Meditation or yoga is a great stress reliever and the best time to nap is around noon for 30-60 minutes. Another great way to take care of yourself is to follow your dreams. You’ll be much happier since you’re doing what you love. I also suggest giving yourself “me time” every day for at least 30 minutes. With “me time,” do something you enjoy doing. It can be journaling, doing crafts, singing, etc.

HCXOXO,

Kelli Carmack

Hi, I'm Kelli Carmack! I am a senior Mass Communications Major at USFSP with a minor in Art History. I'm currently the Co-President of Her Campus at USFSP, a leadership role I hold dear to my heart. I have some pretty big dreams for myself. I plan on getting into the broadcast journalism and/or entertainment field. I hope to one day be the next Barbara Walters, sitting down with prominent people and asking them those hard-hitting questions. While I'm not busy focusing on my career goals, I enjoy going to the beach, painting and reading!
A Mass Communications Major with a passion for inspiring others.
