A Look at a Successful Organization: Bulls Out Loud

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Successful organizations at USF St. Petersburg are known for attracting a large number of students and benefiting those students in their academic and professional sectors. One of those organizations is Bulls Out Loud, a fairly new organization that became an official entity in December of 2014.

The purpose of Bulls Out Loud is “To improve students’ speaking and leadership skills in an environment where it is ok to make mistakes. Bulls Out Loud also allows students to practice speeches that they need to give outside of the club and receive constructive feedback” (Bulls Out Loud).

Spring semester was a successful semester for the organization as numerous events held drew large audiences. At the first meeting of the year, Regional Chancellor, Dr. Sophia T. Wisniewska, gave opening remarks.

Bulls Out Loud also participated in the “Voices of Hope for Aphasia Charity event” which was held at the local Tavern. The Marketing Club, was responsible for promoting and collecting donations for the event; Thomas Skidmore is president for both of these organizations.

Three USFSP organizations, Bulls Out Loud, the Marketing Club and the Management Club, have teamed up to successfully host campus events, such as the Toby Martini Improv this past Friday, April 17th. At this event, students were helped with their improv and team building skills, skills needed for the workplace.

If there is something numerous students can agree with is a heightened level of confidence and improvement in communication skills gained through Bulls Out Loud; these are all skills and qualities students will be able to deploy the rest of their lives.

Even though the organization has been active only for a semester, Bulls Out Loud wants to continue strongly coming this fall. The organizations’ goals are to continue expanding the club with student involvement and continue benefiting the community. Professional speakers are also a goal for the organization.

Wondering how a typical meeting is ran and if you might potentially like it? Thomas Skidmore, president of the organization states a typical meeting at Bulls Out Loud, “consists of a prepared speaking session, an impromptu speaking session, and an evaluation session. We create a new meeting theme every time, which makes our impromptu speaking session (Table Topics) fun”

“We welcome all USFSP students, alumni and faculty to attend our meetings and become members. Students can be as involved as they wish and improve their skills. The main obligation would be held within the officer positions and we encourage students to improve their skills,” Skidmore said.
