It seems like this was the perfect week for two of my favorite artists, Zayn Malik and Sam Smith, to drop new music and I am all for it! These artists have taken quite a bit of a break since they last blessed us with their music, especially Sam Smith.

First was a teaser from Zayn posted on his Instagram and Twitter the night of the VMA’s, and my jaw dropped as I was watching the clip with no audio on my phone. When his first album Mind of Mine came out, I had it on repeat for weeks. There were days where I would play the whole album at least five times because I just could not get enough. His soulful R&B voice and execution of high notes would always have me swooning, so it was pretty challenging waiting so long for his return with another amazing album. September 7th marked the day that I no longer had to wonder when Zayn would feed my soul with more of his music because not only did he drop a song but he also dropped the music video for it. Zayn’s new song Dusk Till Dawn featured Sia, someone I would never have really thought about to collaborate  with Zayn, but boy am I glad they did. They both have such unique and beautiful voices that blend so perfectly. Every time they harmonized together on the song I just put my hand to my heart and fell in love with the song even more.

The music video was action packed, almost as if I was watching a scene out of a new movie coming out. Zayn of course looked beautiful as always with his short blonde hair and very fashionable outfits. The song itself talks about a relationship where the two people involved are willing to do anything and everything to stay together. There are also moments in the song where there is some potential shade being thrown at the media. In the beginning of the song he talks about how he doesn’t want to be what people try to make him out to be in the world, he just wants to go in the direction of what he has always wanted with his music- music that felt more like the person he always knew he was and wanted to be.

One day later and Sam Smith drops a new single as well. I have been waiting oh so patiently for any bit of news of him returning with new music, so when he started to spam his instagram account in early June of pictures with the caption “Recording x,” I nearly died. As time passed, he began to post the date of when his new song would be released which was September 8th, AKA ya girl’s birthday. Seeing that made me the happiest girl in the world; it was honestly the best birthday present a girl could ask for and I knew this before even listening to the song. I have always loved and appreciated Sam’s music and the meaning behind it. In The Lonely Hour was an album that allowed Sam to be vulnerable with his fans about past lovers and heartbreak. I actually got the chance to see him in concert for this album and he sounds exactly the same live!! I wasn’t too surprised by this because he is such a talented human being but his voice is so angelic and hearing it live made me so content with life.

I watched the time, waiting for it to hit midnight so that I could experience all the glory of Sam’s new single Too Good At Goodbyes. The clock struck 12AM and I listened to the song twice, back to back. Something that I love so much about Sam is that not only does he have a heavenly voice but his lyrics are so powerful. There is so much emotion and there is always a story behind every song, making it that much more impactful while you are listening to it. I was able to relate to some of his lyrics, causing me to mentally snap while saying “YAAASSSS” in my head as well. I was extremely happy to hear a chorus of gospel singers in the song, something that Sam has done quite a bit with songs off of his previous album and I absolutely LOVE that. It is safe to say that Sam did not disappoint and has come back better than ever!

By the way, Sam freaking Smith mentioned me in a tweet before his single was released!!! It was 1AM and I was fangirling so hard while laying in bed. I clicked his profile a billion times making sure it was actually him because I could just not believe it. This is a moment that I will always cherish <3

If you haven’t listened to either of these songs yet you are missing out on some quality music my friends! Check them out on Spotify, you won’t regret it!
