Heading to Columbus, Ohio? Check Out These Places!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Recently, I went on a trip to Columbus, Ohio to present at the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). It was such an amazing experience to be able to present about women empowerment to 115 beautiful and inspiring fellow female college students.

While NACA was my main focus on the trip, I had some time to do some sightseeing, so here are some of my favorite places in Columbus that you have to check out if you visit.

The Book Loft in German Village

This was the cutest bookstore ever! It may look like a tiny bookstore from the outside, but  inside there are three stories that are covered in books. When I went there, it was completely packed, so it wasn’t as enjoyable as it could have been, but I appreciated the store nonetheless. I ended up scoring some super cute Impressionist book marks. Also, the outside of the bookstore is so cute and cozy, and is a great place to take some Instagram-worthy photos.

The Ohio Statehouse

O-M-G. This place was so amazing! I wouldn’t say I’m a history fanatic, but I definitely appreciate it, so I wanted to check out Ohio’s official state house. All I can say is I definitely wasn’t disappointed. This might have been my highlight of the whole trip. Seriously, this place was gorgeous. The white collared pillars, the checkered marble staircase, the historical paintings, etc., all collectively made me gasp with awe. There was even a room where THE Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech!

Columbus Museum of Art

I would have never thought of all places that Columbus, Ohio would have such an amazing museum, but boy was I wrong. CMOA had paintings from Monet, Degas, Renoir and so much more! As a huge art impressionist fan, I hit the jackpot with this museum. I spent a good 30 minutes in the impressionist room, gaveling at all the beautiful art. It was also nice because the museum offers free admission on Sundays, so I got to see priceless art for a great price ($0).

There were so many other amazing places and things I got to see in Columbus, but these three were definitely my favorites!

Hi, I'm Kelli Carmack! I am a senior Mass Communications Major at USFSP with a minor in Art History. I'm currently the Co-President of Her Campus at USFSP, a leadership role I hold dear to my heart. I have some pretty big dreams for myself. I plan on getting into the broadcast journalism and/or entertainment field. I hope to one day be the next Barbara Walters, sitting down with prominent people and asking them those hard-hitting questions. While I'm not busy focusing on my career goals, I enjoy going to the beach, painting and reading!
