You’re the whisper in the dark that no one follows,

The voice that’s too calm to make a big splash.

You’re the world’s welcome mat that people trample.

The world treats you like its dirt to its ground,

And you try to fit into places where there is just enough room to squeeze.

Whenever you find the desire to speak up,

Your voice decides to find rest in the silence.

Your mind rambles,

But your voice stumbles.

You see the absence of people in your life,

So you see the absence of your presence in the world.

Is this you? Unheard and unseen? People pass you by but no one really sees you. This was me once. I was living in slow motion in a fast paced world. I was unrecognizable, starving for attention. I tried to dive into the things of this world that promised happiness.

People labeled alcohol, drugs, sex, money, and love “Escape”. I watched, for years, people turn into victims of these things. Girls traded their bodies for love and men traded their success for drugs. Love wasn’t love anymore, but the act of control and power. Sex became a game that women played to win the heart of men. Alcohol and drugs were the pause button on life.

I swore to never involve myself in the world’s play toys however, the toys danced in my face when adversaries came. I found myself swimming in the pit of “love” when I needed an escape from reality. When nobody saw me, he did. When I wasn’t noticeable the alcohol made me noticed. I began to fall into the world’s trap. Too blind by the things of this world, I couldn’t see the sign that said “dead end.”

I dug myself deeper and deeper into this hole not wanting to let go. I was in fear of not finding a better destination. However, I found a hand that led me out of the hole. A hand that offered so much more than alcohol, love, sex, drugs, or money could ever offer. The world was right those things were only an escape, but what God promises is everlasting.

The truth is when we think we’re unseen, we’re not. God sees us and he is reaching out to us in our lowest moments. He just waits for us to let go of the world’s “promises” to grab onto His promises. When I found God I found the attention and love I had longed for.
