As a little girl I always thought Princes and Princesses were something that existed only in Disney fairytales. However, on a dark fall day I was introduced to the British Royal Family over the news. I was eight years old when the beloved Princess Diana passed. I entered my parentâs bedroom to see my mother sitting in front of her television in shock. Confused, I asked her what had happened and she explained that the âQueen of Heartsâ had just died in a terrible car accident as she was clutching her tissue.
I was so curious to learn more about the woman that my mother thought so highly of. That afternoon both of us spent time remembering Princess Diana by looking at photos of her on the pages of Vogue and Vanity Fair spread out across the floor. Head in my hand I began flipping through the magazineâs glossy pages. There were dresses Diana traveled overseas in that were covered in sequins and ruffles. Then I came across the picture of Lady Di in the elegant black dress that she danced the night away in with John Travolta. Â Though, it was the white wedding gown with the 25-foot train that stole my heart. I anxiously pointed out the romantic dress to my mother as my favorite who smiled and began telling me the story of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
The little girl in me that still believes in fairytales is eager to view the Royal Wedding of Will and Kate on April 29th. My mother is also coming down to visit me in college to watch the wedding aired at 5 a.m. Like Cinderella in her sparkly ball gown, and Sleeping Beauty in her changing pink and blue dress, I am excited to see what future princess Kate Middleton will wear as she marries her prince. However, my favorite dress will always be the dramatic gown worn by the princess I will never forget.
