Hollywood has lost another icon today.

The very fabulous comedian Joan Rivers has passed away at the age of 81 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Rivers was in the hospital for a scheduled throat surgery when complications occurred, which put the comedian on life support. Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers decided to take her mother off life support this afternoon. Joan passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughter Melissa and grandson Copper.

The queen of comedy got her first break on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. From that moment forward Joan broke boundaries for women in the comedy world. In 1994 Joan and Melissa Rivers began working the E! as red carpet corespondents for the Golden Globe and other big events like the Academy Awards.

Some of Joan Rivers’ recent projects included stand up comedy shows, a clothing line with QVC and her hit television show Fashion Police with Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne.

Whether she was offending or complimenting people with her comedy, it is no doubt she will be missed by her family and friends, especially the “Joan Rangers” she has left behind.

We love you and rest in paradise Joan Rivers.
