Campus Celebrity: Iannah Johnson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Give a huge hello to Iannah Johnson, this week’s Campus Celebrity! She is heavily involved, in fact, she is Miss USFSP. So it’s not her first time being a campus celebrity. Iannah is known to be one of our many campus representatives through her involvements but not many people know how wise and dedicated she is. Take a peek into Iannah’s personality; you might be surprised!

What’s your major?

My Major is Biology, with a concentration in Bio-medical Sciences and a minor in Legal Studies.

What do you plan to do with your degree?

My plan is to attend medical school and become a Pediatric Gastrologist. I suffer from gastrointestinal problems and I hate seeing children suffer from the same problems. So I believe that if we teach them at a young age about healthy eating habits, it will help reduce the amount of gastrointestinal cases in children.

When did you realize that your major was right for you?

I realized my major was right for me in ninth grade, when I had my first gastrointestinal procedure at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. The staff treated me so well, (I’m not sure if it was because I was a child or if they were just nice) they were kind and sincere with everything they did. They also explained everything that they were doing to me in layman terms (which I appreciated).

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself graduating medical school and beginning to pursue my dream of practicing medicine around the world. “We live in a beautiful world that God has provided for us and who are we to sit around and not see it all.”

What are you involved in on campus?

I think the question should be what am I not involved in on campus. (LOL) But in all seriousness. I am involved in the following: Residence Hall Association (RHA) as the Vice-President, Disney and The Bulls (DATB) as the Secretary, Housing as a Resident Assistant (RA), during the summer I worked as an Orientation Leader (OL), Multicultural Activities Council (MAC) as the Education Chair, I am Miss USFSP, I also work for the Campus Tours office, and I can’t forget that I am a Biology Student. I believe it to be one of my most important involvements.

Being Miss USFSP, how do you feel like you’ve affected this campus and will affect this campus in the future?

Being Miss USFSP, along with all the other roles I play, I believe that I have put a strong testimonial behind our school’s saying “know and be known.” I literally came to this school knowing no one and having little confidence in myself. Now I have made numerous connections on campus with faculty, staff, and my fellow student body. I believe that by me being all that I can be, challenges others to try and be the best that they can be. That just makes me feel amazing hearing those types of things. I hope to continue doing impacting and challenging others to reach their full potential as well. “We all have room to grow, it is within us to unlock and use it.”

What made you choose USFSP?

I chose to attend USFSP because of the beautiful campus, friendly people (even after orientation), the small classes, and the fact that it is away from home, but not too far away from home.

What is your favorite thing about being a student at USFSP?

My favorite thing about being a USFSP student is that we have access to so many resources and tools that other schools don’t. We have an amazing faculty and staff that want to see us succeed so they are willing to help in academics and even outside of school related situations.

What advice do you have for incoming freshman?

The advice that I have for the incoming freshman is to know and trust yourself, use this time to get to know what you are comfortable doing and not doing. Build everlasting friendships and connections. Have fun and use all the services that our school offers, not to mention all the FREE activities that they provide for us. I don’t know everything because I too am a student still learning, but I live everyday willing and searching to learn something new.
