90’s Friends-Inspired Trends Making a Comeback for Fall 2019

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

With temperatures changing, I think it is safe to say that in terms of fashion, it is most people’s priority during the fall to stay warm, but not too warm. It is always important to feel confident and comfortable at the same time. Below are some of the best Friends-inspired trends from the 90’s that are making a comeback and that will have you feeling cute and cozy for Fall 2019.

Trend #1: Bucket Hats

Below, Rachel shows us exactly how to rock a bucket hat. Bucket hats are the best item to have for those messy hair days, or when you want a simple and mod accessory. A bucket hat is a lightweight hat that doesn’t cover your eyes and isn’t too warm for those not-too-hot/not-too-cold autumn days.

Trend #2: Tiny Sunglasses

Rachel, yet again, shows us how to accessorize this fall with her tiny sunglasses. This vintage trend can be used for a sunny fall day and for those days when you just don’t want to put on eye makeup. They can also be used to simply add an extra “pop” to your 90’s inspired outfit. But be careful, they are easy to misplace (I speak from experience).

Trend #3 Boyfriend Jeans

This trend is my personal favorite. Similar to Monica from Friends, I love to pair my oversized jeans with a little crop top or a tank-top bodysuit. Fall 2019 is all about being comfortable and cute. Some oversized, boyfriend jeans are the best item to achieve both while also maintaining that 90’s inspired theme.

Trend #4: Plaid Skirts

For those days when you wake up and feel like getting a little dressed up, or going on a cute and casual dinner date, you can throw on a short plaid skirt. Plaid skirts have been around for ages and I’m convinced they will never go out of style. Check out how Rachel rocks her plaid skirt- this adds texture to her look with a plain turtleneck sweater. Cute, comfortable, classy, and warm.

Trend #5: Crop Sweaters

Crop sweaters are another one of those not-too-hot-not-too-cold trends, perfect for cool fall days. These sweaters can allow you to show some skin if you’re feeling a little dangerous. Or, if you’re feeling like being more modest, pair a crop sweater with a high-waisted bottom just like Rachel pictured below. These cropped sweaters can be dressed up with a skirt or dress pants, but can also be dressed down with some sweatpants or leggings. A must-have item in your closet this fall.

Trend #6 Chunky Shoes

Lastly, and certainly not the least, this 90’s trend is another one of my favorites. Similar to Rachel and Monica in the picture below, one of the easiest ways to accessorize an outfit without doing too much is to wear some chunky shoes. Whether you wear some chunky sneakers, dad shoes, or some large flat or heeled boots, these bold shoes can make a statement with any outfit.

After checking out these 90’s Friends-inspired fashion trends, hopefully you are feeling inspired to get cozy and cute this fall. Luckily, because these are all vintage looks, it is very easy to head to your local thrift shop and find them on a low budget. Remember, the goal this fall is to be cute, comfortable, and feel good. Whatever looks and trends leave you feeling the most confident are the best trends for you. Goodluck, “Friends” ;) and Happy Fall Fashion!
