The website’s mission is to emphasize music considered to be “non-mainstream” and represent it to the majority.
Â
What motivated you to create your own website?
Â
“Over time, and had a very deep and developed passion for music and I’m also very passionate about writing as well. Combining both was pretty much a natural instinct of mine. So in the 8th grade I started writing, and it all took off from there. My family is also musically oriented, which allowed me to really develop in the arts.”
Â
What kind of music does your website focus?
Â
“Our website is pretty diverse so its whole idea to represent music in the SF area. Our main goal is to cover each and every genre to the best of our ability. Whether it be dubstep, trans, electronic, hip hop, or indie, you can pretty much find it on our website.”
Â
What kind of music do you like?
Â
“I listen to everything. I realized coming here that I listen to a lot more of electron hip hop music but I also listen to a lot of indie, jazz and pretty much everything.”
Â
What are your goals and plans for the future?
Â
“We want to have the sections up on the website as soon as possible and to get things going up smoothly. We hope to have a diverse and well equipped staff, so if anybody is interested, we’d love for them to contact us. But the main goal is to get the San Francisco music scene out there in a new way in which people don’t usually see it. It’s about capturing the scene in a new light.”
Â
How did you choose a name for your website?
Â
“I love water and everything about it. One day the name “We Move Against The Tides” just clicked when I was listening to The Radio Dept. “
 Â
What other activities do you do?
Â
“I do a lot of writing, play music, paint, produce, draw and also do a spoken word on campus. So pretty much everything with a creative side to it.”
Â
What do you want to do with your major?
Â
“What I love about communication studies is that it is general and broad, so I can do a lot with it. I hope to end up within the music industry but I am pretty much open to everything.”
Â
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Â
“Hopefully graduated, 4 years is my goal for graduating from here. Also, I hope to do my graduate program at Columbia University. For now, my dream is for “We Move Against The Tides” to get recognized.”
