So if you wanted to live a fun life outside of school and work, finding free opportunities and events is key. Sometimes the best way to find out about free or cheap opportunities in whatever town you are located in is by talking to locals! If you have the opportunity, ask someone who is from the area about what you could do without spending money. If you do not wanna ask a local, you can always look on the internet by searching for “free things to do in the city”.  Based on my past experiences, here are four free or cheap things to do in college.

Go to any and all free events at your college

The amount of events your school holds that seem ridiculous is abundant, but that is a good thing. You have endless opportunities to get free information and free merch. Often schools host free seminars on a range of topics from financial guide 101 to current political issues. In addition, they also have free participation gifts from t-shirts to lanyards plus sometimes you can win a gift-certificate. No matter what, these opportunities are perfect for a fun time with your friends, using your tuition to its fullest, and saving money. Finding these events aren’t hard, just take a look at your school’s newsletters in your email or see the posters posted around campus.

Check if the local museums have free days for students or locals

Something I found absolutely amazing in college is that a lot of time the museums around the city have days where admission is either reduced or free for locals and/or students. Make sure to mark your calendars for these events and make plans to go with your friends. Going to the museum is great for expanding your knowledge as well a cute picture opportunity with whoever you go with.

Explore the city and parks

Each city has its own vibe and is fun to learn about, but the only way to do so is through looking around. The best part about it is that it is completely free! Throw on a pair of shoes, grab some friends, and go on a walk. Look around at the different neighborhoods, local parks, and famous landmarks in that area. In addition, sometimes you can find cool trails to explore and hike later depending on the city you are located in.

Go to your local farmers market

Something that I have always found to be really relaxing is browsing the local market. You get to meet locals and buy authentic foods from your city. Nothing is better than finding new things to try and seeing all the various crafts people have to offer. A lot of the time, you can find cheap and local produce which is healthier to eat than some commercial produce. Plus, you can buy small presents for your family back home or decorations for your room.
