You are sitting in your 11 a.m. lecture listening to your professor speak about whatever and wondering why you need to be there, thinking about what life would be like once you earn that degree. Believe me, I’ve been there.

Except, I am a 27-year-old junior.
Let me explain.

I have spent the last seven years working my dream jobs in my dream countries. But now I live a completely different life of exams, research papers and homework, living the college life. I originally went to a university right after high school for about a year. I attended classes, parties and football games, but I didn’t understand how important it all was until now.

Here are some of the things I wish I could tell my 20-year-old self about college.
GO. TO. CLASS. It costs so much money to sit in those seats and use those tiny fold down desks. You might be sitting there thinking that you could have slept in longer or that you could be doing a million other things, but go. It is worth it.
If you really want to get the most out of your classes, sit in the front. Not only will you be less distracted during class, your professors will notice you more than you think they do. They will remember your face every day, and it will come in handy if you have questions for the professor.
Don’t let the drama ruin your college experience. It is so easy to get wrapped up in it all. That boy you kissed at the fraternity party is now talking to another girl in your sorority, so let it go. Don’t allow that person to stop you from enjoying the college lifestyle. You won’t even remember that boy when you are 27, except Josh… Somehow there is always a Josh.
If you feel stressed, anxious or depressed. GET HELP. Do not be afraid to ask someone for help. Colleges have doctors, therapists, counselors and so many other resources to help you.

Your college years are different than any other time in your life. These years are going to be full of many changes in your life. You will grow, and you will learn. Your college years are your freedom years. The years you can make mistakes, and you are going to figure out who you really are or who you want to become. So take the leap, join those clubs, go to those parties, make those connections, and most importantly, enjoy every minute of it.
