Let’s take a little walk down memory lane and remember the old days when Saturday mornings meant a bowl of cereal, a comfy couch and cartoons. Although television shows have come a long way since the 1990’s, it’s always nice to look back at those childhood days. As kids, when we weren’t running around outside, we were seated in front of TV watching these great classics!
Rugrats
Along with Doug, and The Ren and Stimpy Show, Rugrats was one of the original three Nicktoons that all aired on August 11, 1991. Rugrats followed a group of toddlers: Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and Phil and Lil Deville, along with Tommy’s sometimes cruel cousin Angelica, and their friend Susie Carmichael. The show focused on their day-to-day lives which were usually filled with adventures created from their wild imaginations.
Boy Meets World
Originally aired on ABC in 1993, Boy Meets World is about the life of Cory Matthews from sixth grade all the way to college. The show is a coming of age story featuring what Cory goes through with his family, friends, teachers, and other students. Although Boy Meets World tackled some tough topics, they were relatable, too.
All That
All That aired first in 1994 on Nickelodeon as a live-action, sketch comedy featuring a different musical guest each week and hilarious short sketches. It was just one of those shows you couldn’t watch without laughing!
SpongeBob Squarepants
Originally aired in 1999, SpongeBob Squarepants chronicles a yellow sponge that lives under the sea! SpongeBob loves to play with his friends, Patrick, Sandy, and Squidward and his pet snail, Gary. He enjoys jellyfishing and working at the Krusty Krab. Basically everything SpongeBob does is in good-humored, innocent fun!
Hey Arnold!
Hey Arnold! first aired in 1996 on Nickelodeon. It follows fourth grader, Arnold and his neighborhood friends as they try to navigate big city living. Arnold, Gerald, Sid, Helga, Harold, Eugene, Stinky, Phoebe, and Rhonda deal with the typical kid problems of growing up.
Additionally, the names alone of these other 90’s shows will hopefully make you smile and want to be a kid again. It is impossible to forget good shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Doug, Recess, Angry Beavers, Dexter’s Laboratory, CatDog, The Wild Thornberrys and so many others! Luckily, if this flashback has you missing the 90’s, you can catch up with them!
Boy Meets World plays on ABC Family as well as MTV2. SpongeBob Squarepants plays on Nickelodeon, with new episodes still being made. Johnny Bravo reruns frequently play on Cartoon Network. Even some of the older shows like All That and Doug are featured in TeenNick’s The 90’s Are All That, which plays from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.. Plus, most of the 90’s shows can be viewed on the Internet or are available for DVD purchase online and in stores. So don’t worry, even if the 90’s shows we love are gone from Saturday morning cartoons, they will never be forgotten!
