TV TUESDAY: What makes Project Runway so fabulous?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Hosted by Heidi Klum, “Project Runway” is on its 12th season with views higher than ever. Several contestants come together in New York City and compete weekly to design and sew pieces to walk down the runway based on a theme given by the judges.

In past seasons, this show opened the eyes of the constants to the fashion world by their work being judged by people extremely educated in the field. Some judges and guest judges in the history of “Project Runway” are: Nina Garcia, Zac Posen, Kerry Washington, Alyssa Milano, Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman.

Contestants take the advice of Tim Gunn, an American fashion consultant and the most recent mentor on the show, even more seriously than the judges. He enters the workspace of each designer and offers his very important and well-received advice. The designers either decide to take his advice or leave it. Most of the time, it is in the designer’s best interest to take it.

Designers compete to make the best runway look in competitions that have them searching Mood Fabrics for the best, craziest, most elegant and sometimes fiercest fabrics. From developing an avant-garde look to using their senses to inspire a piece, the challenges can be crazy and the contestants can get short-tempered, which is what makes this show so fun to watch.

This season is the All Star season where contestants from previous seasons are back to claim their title as a Project Runway winner. In the end, there can only be one. Tears will fall, names may be called and the competition can get heated while the contestants are under heavy stress in the close quarters of the workroom.

You don’t want to miss this season of All Stars so catch up on Thursday during the marathon before the new episode at 9 p.m on Lifetime.
