Now that you’ve gotten the chance to adjust back to college classes and figured out your routine, fall is just around the corner. Not only does fall call for pumpkin spice lattes and turning the clocks behind one hour, TV shows are returning! It’s time to mark your calendars and claim your spot on the couch because these shows will have people talking and you don’t want to miss out.
“How I Met Your Mother” (CBS)
This ninth season will be the last of “How I Met Your Mother.” If you’ve been watching since the beginning, it has been a long time to wait for the announcement of The Mother. Season 8 ended with a lot of cliff hangers, and the most important one was letting us see The Mother. She hasn’t officially been named yet but at the end of the last episode, we’re left with her asking for a ticket to the fictional town Farhampton (where Barney and Robin are having their wedding).
Airs Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m.
“The Vampire Diaries” (The CW)
When we last left the dragged-on love triangle between the Salvatore brothers and Elena, Elena finally made her choice. Everyone thinks Silas has been taken care of and won’t bother them again. Elena has spent a season getting used to the vampire life-style and in this fifth season we see her try out a new one: college. Katherine is back in town and ready to cause romantic trouble between the Salvatore brothers.
Last season a new spin-off was announced as the character, Klaus, had his own drama to deal with in New Orleans. “The Originals” will revolve around Klaus and his family while he digs up the family past. Drama ensues between witches and the vampires who rule the town.
Airs Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. and don’t forget to tune in for the spin-off special premiere “The Originals” at 9 p.m.
“Supernatural” (The CW)
It all began with two brothers fighting monsters in search of their dad. Since then, Dean and Sam have grown up in so many ways. After losing his brother, again, for a year, Sam got a taste of what normalcy is. He gave up on ridding the world of monsters. Dean reappears in Sam’s life and the two brothers have to reconcile. They face the ultimate question: is this what they really want to do for the rest of their lives?
Airs Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m.
“American Horror Story: Coven” (FX)
Coven begins the third chapter in the popular horror drama “American Horror Story.” The past two seasons were completely different from each other but brought back old actors who played new characters. Coven revolves around witchcraft In America which is taking place in modern society–how someone is out to hunt remaining witches.
Airs Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m.
“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (ABC)
Whedon directs this new show based on Marvel’s secret government department, S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division). Familiar faces will be back, such as Agent Coulson who we see in various Marvel movies. Coulson recruits new members to investigate the strange and unknown around the world. It sounds familiar to the show “Fringe” which recently ended earlier in 2013. Whedon also was the creator for shows “Dollhouse,” “Angel” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Airs Tuesday, Sep. 24 at 8 p.m.
