THROWBACK THURSDAY: Nickelodeon Game Shows

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Do you remember watching Double Dare 2000 or Guts and just staying in front of the television set hour after hour? The Nickelodeon channel was the No. 1 spot to be to watch these game shows. Come to think of it, Nickelodeon was always the place to be! If you weren’t watching Nick, then you were counting down the hours until you got home to watch your favorite show. I mean, can you blame us? You can’t compare the cartoons and game shows of those days to today’s shows. Those back-in-the-day programs are classics!

Every weekend, I’d find myself eating my lunch and watching the game shows on Nickelodeon. I so desperately waited for the day when I was old enough to try out for them. Watching Figure It Out and answering the puzzles, yelling at the kid who couldn’t get through the slime-filled tunnels in Double Dare 2000, or wondering how the contestants on Legends of the Hidden Temple couldn’t get the monkey statue together when it was only three pieces! It always crossed our minds that if we were on a game show, we’d win without a doubt. Don’t shake your head. You know you thought that- I definitely did!

Unfortunately, those game shows have died down since we left the 90s. So, why don’t we take a look to when we all wanted to get down and dirty with slime.

Double Dare (1986-1992)

Double Dare 2000 (2000)

Legends of the Hidden Temple (1993-1995)

Figure It Out (1997-2000)

Revived Series (2012-2013)

Guts (1992-1996)

Finders Keepers (1987-1988)

Don’t you wish you could rewind time and watch these game shows all over again? Luckily, Nickelodeon has aired some of the shows on its late night program, The 90s Are All That, and we are able to find episodes online, such as on Youtube.com. So, in a way, our childhood hasn’t left us, and it’s all thanks to our lovely friend, technology.
