“The Super Mario Bros. Movie”: A Movie To Remember

If you’ve been on any social media this past month, you have probably heard Jack Black sing “Peaches” an endless amount of times. Maybe that gave you the extra push to see the Super Mario Bros movie or maybe it made you never want to see it. For me, it was definitely the motivator because, in my opinion, he killed that song. But if hearing Black sing this song on a loop has deterred you from watching this film, let me try to convince you that it is definitely a must-see film. Especially if you’re like me, you grew up playing Mario.

The basic premise of the film is that Mario and Luigi go through this green pipe they find underground in Brooklyn which takes them to the Mario world we see in the video games, Though Luigi gets thrown into the portion of the world that Bowser rules over (AKA the not so great area), while Mario lands in the Toad Kingdom, ruled by Princess Peach. Basically, Mario spends the film trying to save Luigi. Mario and Luigi’s brotherly relationship throughout the movie is what really made this film so heartwarming because you can see the lengths Mario went through to try and save Luigi. Also, we get the cutest flashbacks from their childhood that made me tear up.

The other characters we see in this film are Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Toad. I think the writers did an amazing job creating these characters’ personalities because I loved every one of them! Also, this film is pretty star-studded with Anya Taylor-Joy playing Princess Peach, Jack Black playing Bowser, Seth Rogan playing Donkey Kong, and Keegan-Michael Key playing Toad.

The music in this film is another thing that made it so great. For example, when we see the characters about to get into their Karts, the original Mario Kart theme starts playing and just fills you with so much nostalgia. It was honestly the coolest thing to me. All throughout the movie, we also hear various renditions of the Super Mario Bro theme song which also gives that similar sort of feeling.

I don’t want to give away too much of the film, so I will leave my review at that. As stated previously, if you loved the various Mario games growing up, you will love this film!
