Spring Break 2017: Never Too Early To Start Planning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

With less than two months away, it is time to start thinking about plans for #SB2K17 (spring break 2017). Although there is plenty of time to start planning and figuring out exactly what you and your squad are going to do, now is the time to make reservations, request days off and figure out all the logistics and have a plan for when you head to the beach or your week-long getaway.

For those that work and plan on taking a whole week off, now would be the perfect time to put in that request so all the other associate spring breakers don’t cause a surplus in that particular time off. Are you ready? This is what those vacation hours are used for.

While you may have a few plans up in the air with your girlfriends or bros, it’s best to think about what would be most practical, affordable and fun. If you plan on staying at a hotel or campsite, it’s best to begin the search for your room or site now so you lock it in for the cheapest price and also the earlier you book a reservation, there will typically be more availability. Spring break in Tampa, Florida will attract a lot of families and college students since we are about an hour or so away from the best beach in America so it’s never too soon to start looking.

One good way of balling on a budget as a college student is to get a group of (responsible) friends that are willing to split the cost with you on a room and purchasing a suite that has a kitchen. So instead of spending money to eat out, you’re able to whip up breakfast, lunch or dinner, not to mention you can mix your own drink concoctions right in the comfort of your hotel room. An easier way to book a cheaper priced hotel room is to look on a budget hotel search engine that searches multiple hotels in the particular area you’re looking for.

For those on the adventurous side that want to go camping, while most campsites charge per person, places like Ginnie Springs can be under $100 for a three day trip, including floating down the springs. While camping will require a longer list of things to pack, it’s best to plan early so when you have to purchase things like lighter fluid and flash lights, you have already purchased it in advanced.

For those that maybe aren’t able to afford a week or weekend-long vacay, day trips to rainbow river, Cocoa Beach, or even Orlando to go to a theme park will give anyone something to talk about. Spring break is our time to be tourists in this state.

I am a junior at the University of South Florida. I am specializing in Public Relations while pursuing certificates in Business and Visualization & Design. I hope to one day combine all of these and pursue law in the entertainment and even branch out to other passions in family law. While I am studying to achieve these dreams, I have furthered my collection of coffee cups and obsession with caffeine. I currently work as a barista and love to whip up new ideas, whether it be actual coffee creations or branding ideas. My other hobbies include enjoying short walks to the movies and my computer. This is usually to catch up on the latest and greatest shows. If it's not film, it is music. I love the thrill of listening to live music of my favorite and new bands. These inspire me to discover my individuality and brand, while challenging myself to help others find theirs.
