Samantha Sharma: Meet A Her Campus Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Samantha Sharma is not your typical USF student. While most students choose the traditional academic track which leads them from an undergraduate degree to a job in their chosen field or graduate degree, Samantha chose another option.

After graduating from the University of Florida in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in English, she wasn’t quite sure where she was headed. She decided to pursue an undergraduate degree in English with a focus in literary studies and a minor in sociology at USF. She is considered a post baccalaureate undergraduate student. She saw this as a way to stay close to home, save on expenses and give herself a year to figure out what she wants to do.

Samantha, 22, who is originally from Toronto, plans to graduate in Spring of 2013. After she graduates, she hopes to be accepted into a graduate program so that she can further her studies in either English or mass communication.

Since she’s an English major, she is very passionate about books and reading. Her favorite books include Wuthering Heights, The Hunger Games Series, The Chronicles of Narnia, A Clockwork Orange and The Outsiders. Reading brings her joy because she enjoys being able to “immerse [herself] in someone else‘s life and story for a brief moment.”

Samantha also loves music and sites Skylar Grey, City & Colour and Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton as her current favorite artists. She attributes her taste in music to her Canadian upbringing and enjoys telling others about the emerging indie bands she loves.

She considers herself to be a huge TV fanatic and likes to watch The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, and How I Met Your Mother. She loves Disney movies as well as the films, (500) Days of Summer, The Devil Wears Prada, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The biggest challenge she’s faced as a student at USF was finding her way around campus and trying not to be late to her classes. She loves being a student at USF because she enjoys being able to meet people from different walks of life. Samantha decided to join Her Campus because she isn’t involved in any other organizations and wanted to gain some experience in the world of online media. She also feels that the organization could give her great insight and exposure within the industry.

Her favorite trend of the moment is anything menswear-inspired. She finds women’s suiting to be feminine, empowering and stylish.

Samantha considers herself to be honest, creative and outgoing. She is motivated and inspired by seeing other people find happiness because the success of others drives her to reach her own goals. She is passionate about reading, baking, fashion, cooking and painting and enjoys any activity that’s hands on and allows her to be creative.

Samantha lives about 30 minutes away from campus and hasn’t found her favorite place to hang out yet, but with her varied interests, flair for creativity and drive to succeed, I’m sure her she’ll find her place at USF sooner than she thinks.
