Are you tired of listening to the same old songs playing on repeat? Ready for some awesome new music? Well check out the Top Five Songs from iTunes!
1.      “Royals” – Lorde
“Royals” is a single from Lorde’s EP, The Love Club, released earlier this year. Although her stage name is Lorde, the New Zealand native’s real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor. Lorde is only 16, but there’s no reason to underestimate her outstanding talent. She is the first solo artist from New Zealand to have a chart-topping hit song in the United States. Lorde’s debut album, Pure Heroine, was released on Sept. 27 and is currently rated number one on iTunes. Lorde’s music is a very unique mix of indie and pop. Her talent is raw and different from other mainstream artists. Lorde actually has meaningful lyrics too, which adds even more to her appeal. Listen to “Royals” but check out the rest of her album too because it is definitely worth listening to.

2.      “Roar” – Katy Perry
The opening track from Katy Perry’s upcoming third album, PRISM, is “Roar”. PRISM is set to be released on Oct. 22, so mark your calendars! “Roar” is an upbeat anthem with a great sing-along chorus. Many critics compared this song to Sara Barielles’ “Brave,” claiming Perry ripped off Barielles, but in my opinion they are two completely independent artists both with great anthem songs. Listen here for yourself to see if you catch any similarities, and even if you don’t, you’ll have just listened to another popular song! You can also get an album review of Sara Barielles’ latest album here. Barielles’ song is amazing and she is one of my favorite artists, but I also like Perry. You can constantly hear “Roar” on the radio, add it to your music library, or watch the official music video. The video is currently rated number two on iTunes!

3.      “Wrecking Ball” – Miley Cyrus
With a wild VMAs performance, pregnancy scare and newfound bad-girl image, Miley Cyrus has done a full 180 from her former Disney channel self. But it is difficult to deny that this song is powerful. Aside from the scandalous music video of her sitting on a wrecking ball in the nude, “Wrecking Ball” is a soft ballad with a pop chorus beat and emotional lyrics about a break-up. Anyone who has ever suffered the hurt feelings after a break-up can relate to the lyrics and might even flashback to past memories. “Wrecking Ball” is the second song available from Cyrus’ upcoming album, Bangerz, which will be released tomorrow on Oct. 8. I’m sure the rest of the album will not disappoint. Like it or not, we all need to get used to the bad-girl version of Cyrus, who is heading in a completely new direction with her career.

4.      “Wake Me Up” – Avicii
“Wake Me Up” is the first single from Avicii’s second album, True, released on Sept. 13. Avicii’s real name is Tim Bergling, a Swedish DJ and music producer. His genre of music is dance, but “Wake Me Up” provides an excellent twist. The song includes artist, Aloe Blacc, as well as a nice country rhythm with the dance-techno beat. The country music mixed with the electronic dance music works together perfectly! Although this is the only song from him playing on the radio, Avicii’s entire album is really good. True is very diverse with other genres of music including rock, soul, bluegrass, and more. Plus, the album features artists such as Adam Lambert and Nile Rogers. Sing along to this hit song on the radio, but listen to the whole album too!

5.      “Hold On, We’re Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)” – Drake
Currently ranked number two on the top albums iTunes list, Drake’s third album Nothing Was the Same was released on Sept. 24. All of the songs are successful, but one of the first singles released before the whole album was “Hold On, We’re Going Home” featuring Majid Jordan. This song has a mix of pop and ballad brought together to make a hit. Drake proves his versatility with this song in contrast to his others in the past and on the new album. Like many other male artists in the music scene, Drake reaches out to the good girl gone bad. But while others want her to stay bad, he wants her to be good. In true emotional Drake fashion, sometimes mocked but still so sweet, he calls out to her with a place of safety. “It’s hard to do these things alone; just hold on we’re going home.” The Canadian rapper is known for his softer side as well as his rap lyrics, and this album does justice to both.
