Music Monday: Relaxing Songs International Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

My mornings are time for jamming to the most upbeat songs I can think of. After all, I am not a morning person and need something to motivate me to start my morning routine. After a cup of coffee or smoothie to get me going, fun and upbeat songs while I’m getting ready are an absolute must. Although I need upbeat music to get up in the mornings, after a long day of classes and homework, I need some relaxing music to help me unwind.

I’m trilingual. My library of music is filled with songs in different languages, many of those which are the perfect soundtrack to unwind to.

Here is a selection I made from my favorite international playlist you may be able to enjoy and relax to as well:

1. Jorge Drexler – Salva Pantallas (Spanish)

Even though I’m a Spanish major, I’ve never really bothered reading the lyrics of this song, which is one of my favorites by Jorge. It just sounds so amazing I almost feel like I would ruin it by actually understanding the lyrics. I honestly love listening to music that I can’t quite understand. It feels so peaceful to me just focusing on the sound and melody, while giving my brain a break from actually thinking about anything.

2. Zaz – Belle (French)

Singer Zaz introduced me to downloading French music as part of my iTunes library. There is a reason why the French language is associate with all things romantic, fancy and lovely. Because well, it really is all that.

3. Pablo Alborán – Solamente Tú (Spanish)

Ladies: sit back, relax, and get ready to be seduced by the lovely and sexy Spaniard accent of Pablo. This super romantic song will instantly put you in a better mood (well, at least it does for me). I mean, just look at him singing to the camera all cute and sexy! Does it even matter if you can’t understand what he’s saying? Definitely not.

4. Jesse y Joy – Me Quiero Enamorar (Spanish)

American and Mexican brother sister duo Jesse y Joy can definitely make a romantic song sound heavenly. This song is my favorite song from them. This one tells the story of people dreaming to being in love, as the title of the song in Spanish says, “I want to fall in love”. So listen to the song and dream of romance, ladies.

5. Ivete Sangalo – Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar

Of course I could not make a list of international songs without one being in my dear native language of Portuguese! Ivete is one of the most famous Brazilian female singers around the world and is popular for her fun and uplifting songs. In this video she performs one of the most famous, romantic Brazilian songs that has been translated into other languages, including English. I’ve had some friends tell me how beautiful Portuguese sounds, and even though for me it just sounds normal, Ivete’s performance really makes me have to agree with them.

Enjoy my selection of music as we approach a full month of classes, collegiettes™!
