MUSIC MONDAY: Cassadee Pope

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Cassadee Pope is no stranger to the music scene as she makes up one-fourth of the band Hey Monday. Hailing from West Palm Beach, Florida, the 23-year-old has set out to make a name for herself as she embarks on her solo project (while the band is on an indefinite hiatus). She recently completed a solo acoustic tour and just released her first solo self-titled EP. On top of that, Cassadee has even tweeted to fans that she will be auditioning for season 3 of NBC’s The Voice.

If you haven’t heard of Cassadee until now you may be astonished by her impressive résumé that many musicians would envy. She’s collaborated and played alongside many big artists, along with her band mates, like Fall Out Boy, We The Kings, The Academy Is… and Cobra Starship, just to name a few. She’s even done some impressive covers of other artists songs including “In My Head” by Jason Derulo and Hey Monday even had their song “Candles” covered on the hit show Glee (pretty amazing don’t you think!).

While going solo wasn’t always something Cassadee envisioned, it became reality when things started to slow down for Hey Monday and a yearning began out of the blue one day.

“I know I’m very young and have a lot of time left trying for a career in music. I don’t want to look back and regret thinking, ‘What if?’ I want to go for it now,” Pope explained in an interview with Alter the Press.

Cassadee is determined in her goals and has her sights set high saying that she would love to be the opening act for artists like Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and Pink.

What sets Cassadee apart from other musicians is she plays from her heart and delivers lyrics and music that anyone would be drawn to. She is often compared to the vocal styles of Avril Lavigne and Hayley Williams from Paramore, but Cassadee can definitely hold her own alongside these famous female singers and she has the voice and talent to prove it. If she makes it through blind auditions on The Voice, Cassadee definitely has what it takes to make it all the way. Not only can she belt out a tune, but she also plays guitar and writes her own music, which in this day and age is a rare commodity.

So don’t forget to tune into The Voice to see if Cassadee Pope makes it through the blind auditions this week. And if you can’t wait that long and want more Cassadee follow her on Twitter and “like” her on Facebook and then give a listen to her song “Secondhand” off her debut solo EP Cassadee Pope below!
