Murewa Olubela: Meet A Her Campus Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Murewa  Olubela is the definition of a busy college girl – balancing school, a social life and a load of campus clubs. Olubela is a senior at USF, dual majoring in both English with a concentration in creative writing and mass communications with a concentration in public relations. Olubela shares that she chose these majors out of the hundreds that USF offers because, “I love being creative.”

Though her double major is enough for any college gal to handle, Olubela somehow manages to stay involved in her school’s community too – she is a part of a whole list of clubs: African Students Association, Friends of Internationals, National Society of Leadership and Success, PINK Nation, Phi Sigma Theta, Public Relations Students Society of America, Transfer Student Organization and Thread Literary Inquiry.

When she can’t be found in class or at a club meeting, Olubela says her favorite spot on campus to spend down time is at the USF PRSSA’s office. Along with her favorite spot on campus, Olubela dishes on her favorite thing about USF, “It’s changing. There’s always something different, something new.”  A typical day in Olubela’s life currently includes her trying to fit all of her clubs and classes into her now busy schedule, Olubela shares, “I really don’t have a typical day. Right now, I’m in the midst of transitioning to a schedule, just waiting for a positive response. Until then, I have school.”

Some other fun facts about this “Campus Celebrity?” Olubela is originally from Nigeria and is fluent in both English and Yoruba and originally majored in linguistics. She also “enjoys helping people” and loves “PR, books, music, movies and TV.”

Murewa Olubela recently decided to add the Her Campus and magazine to her long list of clubs. What was it exactly about Her Campus that enticed Olubela to add yet another club to her busy schedule? Olubela dishes, “I wanted to hone my feature writing skills.”

Olubela also shares that though she loves USF, there was no particular reason she decided to attend this university over the many others across the country. When asked why she chose USF over other colleges, Olubela simply answered, “I really have no definite answer. I just did.”

Olubela defines the typical busy college girl. She juggles school, a social life, a laundry list of clubs and now her newest past time – writing for Her Campus. Maria Olubela is a social butterfly, studious student and now a Her Campus “Campus Celebrity.”
