Summer is right around the corner, so it’s time to start making summer playlists for beach days and traveling! Here are eight k-pop songs that are perfect for summer.

“Déjà Vu” by Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher has followed an interesting nightmare-themed concepts for all the comebacks they have had starting from their debut. Although they have steered away from that in their latest mini album, “Raid of Dream,” they still dwelled in a magical concept. “Déjà vu” sounds like an anime opening and has metal-infused instrumentals.

The music video looks like a fantasy video game where the group’s members are in a castle, facing off each other while dressed as princesses and knights. The song is quite unique as it has a very heavy-rock sound, something not as common in other songs.

“Blueming” and “Love Poem” by IU

IU has had a busy year filming her drama, Hotel Del Luna.  so it wasn’t until the end of 2019 when she finally got to releasing some music. She released her EP with singles “Love Poem” and “Blueming,” which quickly topped all Korean music charts. “Blueming” has an electronic pop/rock style that matches the cheerful chorus; meanwhile, “Love Poem” is a ballad that gives off a warm yet melancholy feeling. The concept difference between the songs shows the versatility of the singer that has given her national popularity.

“Lil’ Touch” by Girl’s Generation

It has been a long time since Girl’s Generation has released any music as a group. Their last song, “Lil’ Touch,” was released in 2018 by a new subunit that included five out of the nine members. The upbeat song also reflects a mature side that the members began to express as they strayed away from the girl crush concepts they used to have in the beginning of their careers.

“Flower Shower” by HyunA

You simply cannot leave out HyunA’s “Flower Shower.” The colorful music video was HyunA’s first solo comeback in two years, and it portrayed a new beginning of herself as she used the blooming of a flower as a metaphor. The sound of the single is very different from her past songs like “Lip & Hip,” but visually wise, it’s as bright and lively as ever.

“Butterfly” by LOONA

LOONA’s “Butterfly” is a song all about women empowerment that is matched with an equally diverse music video. The beautiful, angelic vocals mesh beautifully with an airy melody and groovy beat drops. The lyrics empower an individual to follow their dreams and heart and take flight like butterflies do. The music video is shot in many cities worldwide and has a great diverse number of women from all nationalities, races and religions.

“Spring Snow” by Pentagon
