How You Can Make Your Apartment Feel More like Home in 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Just moved into your new place and looking for ways to spruce up your space? Or are you in need of a refresh for the new year? Maybe you’re just looking for an excuse to shop. Whatever the case is, I got you.

Even if you’re renting or don’t plan on staying in the same apartment for longer than a year, it’s still important that your feel comfortable and cozy in your space. You don’t have to spend loads of money to make your new space feel like home. It’s the little things that can really make your space feel more like you.

Invest in a comfy but stylish comforter.

This will be the centerpiece of your room, so choose wisely! Your bed is also where you’ll end up at the end of the day, and after a rough one, nothing feels better than a cozy place to lie down. If you really want to add some personality to your room, choose one with a bold color and some texture, like the one below from Urban Outfitters.

Decorate your walls with posters or prints that make you happy.

Prints are great because they allow you to create a mini art gallery on your wall filled with pieces you handpicked. Prints are an easy way to bring some personality and life into your room. They can also serve as pieces of inspiration.

Buy a couple of low-maintenance plants.

Succulents and cactuses add a homey touch to your place that require little maintenance to stay alive. Shop local and find something unique for your space. Local farmers markets and garden centers usually have the best selections.

Toss in a couple of cute throw pillows.

Throw pillows can bring any room together. It can bring a boring comforter to life to add some color to a standard living room. Choose ones with different textures and patterns to add some personality to your space.

Start small and don’t feel like you need to buy everything in one day. The adjustment period is a great time to figure out what your style is and what you want out of your space. Enjoy this transitional period, as you will look back on it with fond memories later in life.
