It’s Friday night and you’re sitting on your dorm bed. Your friend is blowing up your phone: “Are you coming out tonight? Ready to party?” But you’re not. You don’t feel like going out and would rather spend the night in. What to do, what to do? Don’t worry! Her Campus is here to help! Don’t know what to do on your Friday night in? Here are four fun activities!
Movie Night
Whether you invite a few friends over or watch by yourself, pick out your favorite movies, pop some popcorn and settle into your favorite pair of sweatpants. Movie nights are fun, easy and can be endless. I once had a movie night with my roommates and we were up until the sunrise the next morning! If you have exhausted your secret supply of Disney movies or romantic comedies, here’s another idea: catch up on one of your favorite shows with a marathon from the latest season. You’re guaranteed for a great time with a flick, food, and friends!
DIY Night
Do-it-yourself is such a fun activity! Plus, there are plenty of different things to do yourself, big or small. Some crafts take more time and patience, and others can be done easily in ten minutes tops. For example, you can make hair bows or headbands, as well as bracelets or necklaces. You can also cut up tee shirts into crop tops, turn denim jeans into shorts or jackets into vests. The advanced version of cutting up clothes would be bleaching and then adding studs or jewels. Other easy DIY crafts include nail art. You can find designs online or make up your own. Also try writing cute quotes or pretty designs with Sharpies on plain mugs, and baking them in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Just remember when crafting, hot glue guns and Mod Podge are your best friends!
Game Night
An alternative to going out is having a game night with your friends, roommates or floormates. Although we are college students with tons of other things to be doing, sometimes it is nice to just sit down and play a board game. Games like Monopoly, Life, or Twister are just a few classics that are a good idea to bring from home. They won’t even take up much space, just add them to the stack of storage under your bed. Another great board game is Candyland, or of course you could just eat lots of candy! And don’t stress, if you or your friends don’t have any board games, you can play card games or computer games. Plus if you know someone willing to bring over their Xbox, Playstation, or Wii, those are great multiplayer games, too. Game nights are a great distraction. It’s easy to escape into the world of Wii Sports or FIFA Soccer and forget about all of your worries!
Pot Luck Party
Plan ahead with your friends for a pot luck party where everyone brings food to share with a small group. College life edition could include anything microwavable or pre-cooked from Publix. If you want to get fancy, you can buy the ingredients to cook real dishes in the kitchen. Even if you don’t live in an apartment, you can always use the kitchen on your dorm’s floor. Just be sure to follow the rules and clean up your mess right after you are done cooking. Pot luck parties are a great way to bring people together and bond over something we all love: food. Even if everyone is not bringing a hand-cooked meal, it will be special simply because of the good company and the stuffed stomachs you’ll end up with.
Solo Time
If you’re not looking to socialize on your Friday night, there are many other activities to do alone. You can do some recreational reading if that’s your thing. I highly recommend reading every book every written by John Green or Sarah Dessen. Also check out “The Mortal Instruments” by Cassandra Clare and “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, both with movie series in the process. If reading outside of your required textbooks isn’t your thing, watch regular television or simply sleep. Sleep is one of the greatest things in the world that we just can’t get enough of. Catch up on all of those extra hours you missed throughout your busy week. No matter how you spend your Friday night in, make the best of it!
