FASHION FRIDAY: Fashion by Mayhem

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

If you love everything fashion and haven’t discovered Fashion by Mayhem yet, Her Campus USF is about to rock your world. This four-year-old girl and her mother are making huge strides in the fashion industry by playing—wait, what? That’s right, this all started as just another game for little Mayhem, and while it is still all fun and games, the world is watching. Someone call Tim Gunn, we think we have the next Project Runway winner!

On May 24, 2013, Mayhem and her mother created their very first paper dress. Little did they know this dress would be the first of so many that they would run out of space for them to hang on the walls. Typically, the dresses are made, pictured, then taken back apart to reuse the paper later, but some of them Mayhem insists stay. They have about ten hanging in their makeshift “design studio” right now. For Mayhem’s mom, Angie, this is about more than paper dresses and play time–it’s about spending time with her daughter and watching her grow.

When Mayhem found out there was a show completely about making dresses, Project Runway, she “hyperventilated.” The first-ever Project Runway recreation was the beginning to many more. Recreating dresses became a reason to watch the show, as well as award shows. Which is how we found out about this creative little girl.

We were blown away by her recreation of Lupita Nyong’o’s Golden Globes dress. Even more fascinating than her recreation itself, is the pose she does in the picture. She not only creates these dresses, she models them perfectly! If you have the time, and we mean an hour and a half at the very least, check out their Instagram and blog. The world is falling in love with this little girl, her mother and their creativity. You won’t be able to stop scrolling through their feed once you start!
