Bulls How To: Make a Bookmark that Doubles as a Headband

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Many of us have beads and buttons lying around our rooms or tucked away in drawers that in all reality, we are just never going to use. Here is a very simple, cute and creative way to actually put these ignored buttons and beads to use.

Materials that you will need:

  • Any buttons or beads that you would like to use as a bookmark or potentially wear in your hair
  • 1 mm stretch cord (this can be found in any bead section in any craft store)
  • Hot glue gun and a glue stick (this is just for extra strength to hold the knot together)

To determine how long of a piece of cord you need, wrap a piece around your head in the same position a head band would. Before cutting, leave a few extra inches on each side so you will be able to tie a knot.

Once you gathered all of your materials go ahead and place your stretchy cord through your beads and buttons. Since I like to keep things simple I decided to only use two buttons and some white stretch cord. However, the cord does come in different colors and you can use as many buttons and beads as you’d like.

Next go ahead and set up your glue gun and let it warm up. You’re now going to tie a regular double knot. No matter how hard you pull, the knot will not stay without the glue to hold it in place. Put a few drops of glue around the knot and then let it dry.  This knot does seem kind of ugly, but no one will be able to see it since it will either be on the inside of your book or covered by your hair.

After the glue dries, go ahead and snip of the remaining cord after the knot.

Now your bookmark/headband is complete. Try it out and wear it around!
