Ashley Weinaug: Meet our Campus Correspondent

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Ashley Weinaug, a senior from Orlando, Florida, has taken the reigns of the Her Campus chapter at the University of South Florida. In the previous year, she held the vice president position and has grown to love everything that Her Campus has to offer.

What’s your major/minor?
Public relations major, Spanish minor.

Why did you choose public relations?
It actually took me awhile to pick my major and be happy with it. I began my college career as a biology major because I loved animals. I volunteered at Lowry Park Zoo and had dreams of working with animals but that all came crashing down once I took my first chemistry and biology class. I switched to an education major for about a week, then somehow decided on mass communications. I picked this major because I was still a little unsure of what I wanted to do and it was pretty broad. I knew this was a perfect fit because I love working with people, writing and staying organized. Now, I couldn’t be happier with my decision!

What are your plans after graduating from USF?
Once I graduate next December, I plan on moving to the big city of New York to get a job. I want to work in music pr and plan on working at a record label. After a year or so I want to end up in California to work at an agency and enjoy the warm weather.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I’ll be 27 and the thought of that is a little depressing. I’ll be living somewhere in the world, pursuing my love for music with a cute little family and lots of cats. I’d like to end up in California, Texas, Australia or Spain.

What’s your favorite hobby or what do you do for fun?
I recently finished an internship with a local record store, Daddy Kool Records. Through my internship and street teaming for the company, I’ve been working at a lot of different shows doing promotions. Checking out different bands and making new connections in the music world is my all time favorite hobby and hopefully will become a part of my job someday.

What’s one thing about you that people would never in a million years know about you unless you told them?
I would say my love for cats and that I have seven of them, but I think people already get the cat lady vibe when they meet me. I suppose people wouldn’t guess that I’m a world traveler. I’ve been to every continent and almost every one of the tallest mountains in each place. I’m crossing off Mount Elbrus in Russia this winter break!

Any hidden talents?
My only hidden talent would be that I’m a cat whisperer. Seriously. I can get any cat to love me.

What’s your favorite thing about the college experience?
My favorite thing about the college experience is definitely studying abroad. I’d say it was the most influential part of my time at USF. You meet so many new people and are actually excited to learn in your classes because you’re basically on vacation.

What are you most looking forward to about going to USF?
For this semester at USF, I’m most excited about being the president of Her Campus. The organization is an amazing source for college women to help them stay in the loop with everything happening at their university and for college life in general. I’m excited for my awesome, new team and planning fun events!
