AI Art Can’t Replace What Humans Create

For many years, art has been a debate amongst critics. First it was “men are the only ones who can produce art,” then it was “art can only come from traditional means,” then “art can be subjected to anything only if it comes from human hands.” Now, however, a new debate arises: “Is AI art actual art?”

Today, readers, I will explain to you why AI art is, in fact, not art, and how it never will be.

The number one reason that instantly disproves AI “art” is that all AI takes from actual artwork. There is no bot that creates its own art; it is all renditions of previous artwork or photography taken throughout the history of the internet and social media. Art should be an original creation of the mind, made with hard work and the intention to create from imagination. It is not a direct copy of another item that already exists.

Not only that, but AI has no mind to create such ideas. It is all a collection of posts and prompts that were placed into its database. It is not truly capable of creating artwork simply because it is not alive, and it cannot experience the true beauty of creation. It can only copy creation.

Second of all, AI takes jobs away from people. Art is a hugely important part of our lives; it creates everything around us. Nothing could be made if it were not for art. Not only that, but it is an activity that many enjoy and get paid for. It is a respectable career that deserves to be rewarded. However, with the increased use of AI, using actual humans for art has become more scarce, which shows a lack of respect for the artist and their skill.

Art takes a lot of skill that has to be honed for years. However, AI art makes it so that all of these skills show no fruition for artists. AI takes the joy out of art and out of creativity as a whole. It ruins the creation of nature and creates more problems for human life. It makes us unable to imagine, unable to feel beyond what is already in our heads. Art allows us to showcase our deepest desires, our secrets, and our view of the world, whether that is what could better it or what haunts us when we close our eyes.

AI cannot sleep, it cannot dream, it cannot ponder or wonder. It can only duplicate. It is more akin to a sickness than an artist, because it can only take. AI is not an artist. It is not a tool. It is not anything along the lines of creation. Humans are the only beings that can create art. We have the compassion, the determination, the motivation, and the experience of life to create. Art comes in many forms and in many ways, but there is no space for AI in that process. If AI keeps being used for “art,” then there will never be any actual art in the world. It will all be fruitless copies of one another from a machine that cannot see or feel the world.

She/Her, I love to draw and do art! I also love cooking. Go Bulls!
