Although it has not consistently been cold yet, every once in a while the wind will pick up as a reminder that the fall weather is approaching. Whether it is here yet or not though, it’s important to be prepared. Since we live in Florida, our closets are stocked full of shorts and whatever else helps keep the summer heat off of us. But don’t worry, those summer clothes will come in handy through the fall season. Here are six ways to incorporate fall into your summer wardrobe.

1. Scarf

A scarf is a simple way to add fall into your wardrobe. You can wear your favorite pair of jeans with a nice blouse, then add a scarf and you’re instantly fall fashion forward. When shopping for scarves, just be careful to determine the thickness of the material. Sure, that thick infinity scarf looks super adorable in the store but when you double it around your neck for your outfit on Monday morning it just might swallow you up. Plus in Florida we don’t really need thick scarves, so shop smart and look for medium to lightweight materials.

2. Boots

Boots can easily enhance your summer wardrobe into one for the fall. Boots come in a wide range of styles with neutral colors. Look for knee-high boots, lace-up combat boots, and ankle booties. Boots can be wore tucked under jeans or leggings or paired with knee socks and tights. That floral skater skirt from the summer can transition to the fall with tights, boots and a sweater.

3. Socks

Knee socks are on trend this year! In a variety of colors, knee socks are functional and stylish. The most common colors for this fall include black, burgundy, navy, and grey. Try out knee socks for yourself to see if you like the trend. You can wear them with a dress or skirt, and yes, even shorts too! Those high-waisted denim shorts you bought this summer will not go to waste if you pair some knee socks with them, ankle booties and a comfy crewneck.

4. Tights

Just like knee socks, tights will keep you warm for the fall weather as well as looking good. In many different colors and patterns, tights can add an easy pop to any outfit. Besides just wearing tights with dresses or skirts, you can even pair tights with your summer season denim shorts for a different look.

5. Sweaters

You can add a cardigan to just about any outfit and make it acceptable for the fall weather. Especially here in Florida, where our winters aren’t the least bit brutal. Sweaters come in all shapes and forms such as crewneck, button-up, zip-up and more. Try out different styles to see which you like best. A trend in sweaters this year is the oversized patterned sweater. Even if Bill Cosby comes to mind with patterned sweaters, take a risk. You’ll surely be cute and comfortable.

6. Hats

Another trend this year is the beanie hat. Some hats have embellishments like studs or stitched words. You definitely can’t go wrong with a puff ball on the top!
