6 Ways to Best Manage Your Time in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Being in college can be very hard, especially when you are you studying all day, going to class, going to the gym, making time for friends and family, and maybe relaxing if you can.

Here are some ways in which you can best manage your time.

Use a planner.

Having a planner gives you the space you need to keep yourself organized and up to date with your life. Use different colors and color code your class work or activities you may have.

Prioritize your to-do list.

This can work in two ways. First, you should write down the must-do things that have to be completed as soon as possible. Then, get the easy stuff done and out of the way and move on. This method all depends on you, however. I personally like doing the easy tasks first because it makes everything easier for me once I’ve finally gotten into a working mode.

Avoid distractions.

I know it’s hard but sometimes you just have to do it. Things you can do include putting your phone in another room, turning off your phone, putting it on silent, or putting it on do not disturb mode.

Tell your friends to keep you accountable, if they see you getting distracted, they can let you know.

Be alone, sometimes being alone is the easiest way to get work done.

Do not procastinate!

This one is probably the hardest one for everyone, even people who aren’t in college. If you know something has to be done soon, do it, get it out of the way, and instead of writing that paper the night before, you can be out with friends or watching Netflix.

Give yourself a deadline of when you want something finished. Add a date or time if needed.

Add things to your phone calendar so that you get alerted or notified of nay work that you must complete.

Take a break! Take some time to breathe and relax. It’s the only way to avoid being super stressed or overwhelmed. Grab a snack and go on social media for a bit, and then get back to work!

Get enough sleep.

If you get enough rest, you will end up waking up on time, giving yourself enough time in the day to do everything you have to do.

Ask for help.

If you ever feel stuck or need any type of help, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. Everyone needs some help sometimes.

As much as you enjoy having the freedom that you do be smart and start using some time management skills it will help you out in the long run.
