5 Ways to Make Your Dorm Feel Like Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

It’s inevitable that at some point you’ll experience homesickness while in college. The best way to get over it is to transform your dorm into a second home. While revamping you room may not fix all of your problems, it will definitely brighten your mood. Here are some of our favorite ways to spice up your dorm room:

1.   Wall Tapestry

Walls of college dorms are well…bare. Cover up that blank space with a wall tapestry. Whether your vibe is more boho, glam, preppy, or minimalist, check out society6.com for a wide variety of tapestries. The best part about society6 is that all the artwork is original and created by thousands of artists around the world.

Here are a few of my faves:

2.   Pillows

I am a firm believer in the power of decorative pillows (no there is not such a thing as “too many”). Dormify.com has over a hundred different styles, shapes, and textures of gorgeous pillows, suitable for everyone’s needs.

3.   Plants & Terrariums

Not only will plants literally add life, they help to filter the air in your room. And terrariums are the new it thing when it comes to gardening. Here’s an awesome how-to on how you can construct your own terrarium.

4.   Removable Wallpaper

Another way to cover up those barren walls, is to use removable wallpaper. Its non-adhesive surface will make sure that it leaves no traces of residue behind. Etsy has thousands of designs sure to brighten up anyone’s day.          https://www.etsy.com/search?q=removable%20wallpaper&ref=auto1

5.   Put Up Artwork

The best way to display your precious memories…hang them up! Whether is an awesome poster of your favorite movie or a snapshot of you and your besties, putting it up on the wall add much needed personality to your room.
