4 Non-Mainstream Ways to Spend Your Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Looking for a ways to spend your spring break, but have no clue where to start?  Look no further because this list has you covered. Whether you are a rollercoaster daredevil or a thrifting queen, this list has something for everyone.

Go to a theme park.

When you’re a Florida local, you have the luck of being near an abundance of theme parks.  With so many options to choose from, there is most likely a park that will fit your needs that isn’t too far of a drive.

In Walt Disney World, many opt to go to the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival and embrace the spring season by trying some delicious food and seeing mesmerizing arrangements of flowers. Disney also has its other parks, like the classic Magic Kingdom, the newly renovated Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

Not feeling like being in the house of mouse? Luckily, other theme parks such as Universal Studios and Busch Gardens are in the general proximity as well. At Universal Studios, you can live your own adventure at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and drink your share of butterbeer. If you have more of a taste for rollercoasters, Busch Gardens is home to many different thrill rides as well as exotic animals. Whichever way your path leads you, you’re in for a wonderful time!

Explore a small town.

If you are more of the explorer type, a great way to spend your spring break would be to journey to different small towns. In Florida, small towns like Tarpon Springs and its boardwalks are worth a visit. With the influence of Greek culture and the many family-owned businesses in the area, this town is a great spot to go on spring break. You have to try the delicious Greek food from places like Hella’s and Dimitri’s, and thrifting in various shops is always a guaranteed good time.  Dunedin, another small town, is right by the beach, so it’s a perfect spot surf and turf away your spring break. Just remember to wear your sunscreen!

Have a crafting day.

Don’t really feel like venturing out? Has the semester made you extremely stressed? A simple solution would be to go to your nearest craft store and make your own masterpiece. If you’re not artistically inclined, there are many tutorials on YouTube that can assist you in getting started until you are truly motivated to make your own gallery. Besides, a little personation of Bob Ross never hurt anyone, right?

Go volunteer.

Feeling selfless this spring break and want to make a difference? Volunteering during the week is a great way to spend your time. Whether it’s a summer camp, shelter or church, volunteering makes huge impact on the community.

If you can’t volunteer, donating old clothes or toys is still a good way to make a difference. On top of that, it clears out all of the stuff that had been decaying in your closet.

Other ways to do good deeds would be to do some gardening or cleaning up local parks and beaches. If you’re at home and neighbors need help, you can mow lawns and walk dogs.  Whatever good deed you choose will make a spring break worthwhile.
