On Tuesday February the 10th, 2015 Craig Stephen Hicks shot and killed three students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The victims were Deah Barakat, 23, his newly wed wife Yusor Abu- Salha , 21, and Salha’s younger sister Razan Abu- Salha, 19.

The murder allegedly took place due to an, “ongoing dispute over parking,” however, Police are not dismissing the possibility of a hate crime.

On Tuesday February 17th, the Muslim Students Association organized a vigil for the three murdered students. During the vigil, URI students were encouraged to sign a “petition” which in turn, is to be sent as a card on behalf of the URI community to the victim’s families.

The efforts made by the MSA are to be recognized and certainly show the amount of mindfulness and compassion present on the URI campus.
