She’s creative, caring and super-involved on campus. She’s… Drumroll please! Caitlin Green! She loves to craft, sew, and get involved on campus whenever possible. She is a member of the Student Alumni Association as well as a council member for Kappa Delta Sorority. But what’s most great about Green is her desire to use her crafting talents for good.
For the past four years, Green said, the Martin family has raised money to build New England’s first 100-percent handicap-accessible playground in their late daughter Jessica’s honor, Jessica’s Boundless Playground. The idea for the playground came from the family’s desire to provide a safe and fun playground environment for all children, regardless of ability, she said. By selling monogramed ornaments, decorated glassware and personalized canvases at URI’s annual Holiday Mini-Mall, Green was able to donate $1,200 to the project and help build the playground in September 2014.
Although the playground is officially open to the public, the playground still needs funding to pay for construction supplies that were “lent” to the family. Donations are still being accepted here.
Caitlin saw she could make a positive impact on the lives of children and got involved to make a difference. We at HC URI are so proud of Caitlin’s beautiful work and caring heart.
