To All of My Spring Babies, Our Time Has Come

First, I can’t believe we’re approaching the end of March and second, happy first day of spring! If you’re a spring baby like me, it’s the best time of year and we are in need of refreshing ourselves. Now that it’s post-spring break and it’s crunch time. Not only with comprehending that you may be graduating in two months but also getting yourself back on track. For me, this means separating myself from my typical work environment as much as possible and finding new ones to bring in a fresh perspective. I think this is critical in that it will prevent you from losing focus on your studies and will keep you motivated. 

As we can feel the nice weather finally coming back, it’s the time of year again where our lives need a little spring cleaning. One aspect to pay attention to are bad habits, and now is the time to get rid of them and stop riding them out. I for one know how easy it is to fall into a routine during the winter months that isn’t necessarily benefiting you mentally or physically. This is the season to take the time for your mind and your body whether that includes exercise, diet or just being plain lazy (like someone I know). 

In regards to establishing new habits, a little goes a long way. Instead of reaching for social media as soon as you wake up, which literally gives me a headache, allow your body to prepare for the day without any distraction and try journaling or deep stretching – things that will increasingly benefit the way you feel and think every day. Instead of going right home after classes, which for me only leads to watching YouTube and snacking, get your homework done early at your favorite cafe or park bench now that the weather is nice. I love when days feel longer, and getting things out of the way will create more free time for you. 

I love having my birthday in the spring. It’s a nostalgic feeling for me every year, and it influences me to better myself each time – I’m sure some of you can relate. I use springtime as my second stage of resolutions for the year. I check back on my progress for the ones that I made in January and if they are not achieved or at a satisfactory level, I make them much more specific for myself.

We change a lot in three months time, so making this reconnection with yourself is important to stay true to your goals and staying consistent with good habits.
