5 Free/Almost Free Things to Do Over Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Spring Break is quickly approaching people… YAY! I have been counting down the days until it begins. March 9th, where you at? Anywho, I came up with a list of some free, and almost free things to do during spring break to keep you from laying in your bed all day watching Netflix.

1. Bike Tour

Bike tours can be free…. as long as you have your own bike! A really fun thing you could do is throw your bike in your car and drive to a cute or quaint town in your state, or another if you feel like taking a drive, and bike around and see what you can find! I’m sure there are so many cool places you could find.

2. Go Hiking

Hiking is one of my favorite spring/summer activities. And it’s free! If you are lucky enough to live in a state with huge mountains or a national park, then you are in for an amazing hike. However, smaller states, like Connecticut and Rhode Island, still have some really fun and beautiful mountains you can climb! Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?!

3. Hang out with your friends

There is nothing wrong with spending a lazy day with your BFFs. Especially if you go to different schools, you probably have so much catching up to do on the latest gossip about your roommate or your new ‘bae.’ If you feel like splurging, go to your favorite restaurant or the movies; there’s always a student discount somewhere!

4. Go to the Beach

Most college spring breaks are during the off months of the beach season, for New England kids at least. Most beaches don’t officially open until the first weekend of May. AKA you can go to most for free right now. Granted it’s cold and not beach weather, it’s still pretty to go and take cute pics with your friends.

5. Go to your favorite city

The closest cities to URI are NYC and Boston. This trip isn’t entirely free, but almost! Instead of taking the ‘T’ or the ‘Metro’ to one of the cities, you can drive your own car! You would have to pay for parking, but it is much more convenient to have your own mode of transportation. To prevent yourself from spending money at expensive restaurants, bring a picnic with your fave snacks from home and sit in Central Park or Boston Common!

Hey everyone! My name is Cassie and I am from Connecticut. I am a junior at URI majoring in pharmaceutical sciences. I am not entirely sure what I want to do with that major yet but hey, that's what college is for! I am obviously a apart of the URI Her Campus chapter and I am also a member of the Colleges Against Cancer here at URI. In this club, we plan the annual URI Relay for Life which is held down in Mackal Field House. I am so excited for our Her Campus launch and to be writitng weekly articles for you all :)
