5 Environmentally Sustainable Clothing Brands We Love

1. Wholesome Culture

Wholesome Culture is a brand that began two years ago by Audrey, a 24-year-old passionate about animals and the environment. Wanting to help protect the earth she began this clothing brand, and dedicated to making “plant-based and cruelty-free living accessible to thousands of people across the globe.” On the Wholesome Culture website, the full story is available to read, along with statistics about how many brands in the fashion industry are extremely harmful to our environment. Wholesome Culture states that most of their clothing is made in Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certified factories, “The Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) is a non-profit dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane, and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education.” Another cool statistic on the website is the “Vegan Calculator,” which reveals the impact a plant-based and sustainable lifestyle can have on the environment. With the priority to be kind and compassionate to animals, the planet and every human living within it, how can you not support this young female entrepreneurs brand?

2. Olsenhaus 

Founded in 2008 in New York City by Elizabeth Olsen, Olsenhaus, is a designer clothing brand that combines “passions for design, fashion, function and being a voice for animals, the environment, transparent business practices and unwavering values in ethical and social responsibilities.” Olsen is “an outspoken advocate against the use of animals for food, clothing, experimentation and entertainment while assisting in movement towards a higher state of consciousness for planet earth and all of mankind.”  Insisting that being kind towards humans, animals and the environment are synopsis with the beauty of style, Olsenhaus promotes veganism in the form of luxury fashion. The Olsenhaus website even provides consumers with resources about living sustainably and transitioning into vegan lifestyles.

3. The Reformation

Making effortlessly chic, stylish and retro clothing for all body shapes and sizes, The Reformation is a clothing brand praised for their sustainability. The Reformation makes all their pieces from rescued deadstock fabrics, repurposed vintage clothing and are continuing to push the boundaries of producing and creating sustainable fabric options as they continue to grow. Not only is every single item they sell super cute and stylish, but they also have tons of great resources on their website, going into detail about what kinds of fabrics they are using, how they compare to others and anything else consumers want to know about tracing their clothing back to its original source.

4. Les Sublimes

Les Sublimes is perfect for anyone who adores the Parisian chic style and being eco-friendly. This clothing company tells its consumers where all of the different fabrics they use come from, how they are sourced and how they are helping the environment. They are different from other clothing companies, this brand’s fabrics go through rigorous reviews to be sure they are the most natural, recycled, innovated and botanical fibers possible for the design. Encouraging consumers to buy clothing that does not cause deforestation, air, water and soil pollution, or use harmful chemical, Les Sublimes boasts that their fabrics do not have any “hazardous substances, such as herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers or GMOs, and are free of harsh chemicals, dyes, toxins and processing agents that could be absorbed by your skin.” You can learn more about their fabrics and who you are supporting through this clothing brand, some of which include “artisans, farmers, nomads and working mamas with good jobs – creating employment that promotes financial independence and education of women.”

5. Plant Faced Clothing

Focusing on being the “global lovechild of fashion, design, art, music, skate, surf, street, tattoo culture, and a plant-based, cruelty-free lifestyle,” Plant Faced Clothing is a streetwear based clothing line. They are 100% ethical and cruelty-free, promoting their strict use of eco-friendly and ethically made apparel. They state that almost all of their clothing is also “Fairtrade, Fair Wear or WRAP certified” and that their clothing “do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFCs and HCFCs aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents, and as the inks are water based the screens can be cleaned with water rather than solvents” which are 100% vegan.
