15 Reasons We Are All Still Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

So you use the the phrase #foreveralone at least 3 times a day and your tv remotes have their own side of the bed. Is it really our fault that we’re all still single? With the curse of the hook up culture looming over our heads, it is almost impossible for us millennials to imagine life any other way. Most of the time we even fail to realize that our entire generation feels this way and although it’s hard to imagine, more than half the population is actually single.

If we took a step back from our self loathing for a minute, we might just realize that we truly are not alone. If your older cousin is planning to bring a boyfriend to Thanksgiving for the 5th year in a row and you’re thinking about how you will be taking a picture with the turkey, it might be time to think about why we are all still effing single.

1. We grew up hearing stories from our grandparents that sound like the plot of The Notebook but we’re worried if we texted back too soon.

2. We watched our parents go on real dates in gorgeous outfits but we’re totally down for Netflix.

3. We think online dating is pretty damn weird but the 3 guys texting us right now are from Tinder.

4. We watch all of our friends fall for really ‘great’ guys and then we end up drying their tears.

5. We don’t want to be the first one to show emotions and fear that we will seem too interested.

6. We spend too much time wondering if we’re inadequate and ask rhetorical questions like what does she have that I dont??

7. We think that being young is all about making memories.

8. We have our own definition of the verb talking and we think it’s a synonym for dating.

9. We always seek out flaws in the people we are interested in, just in case we need reasoning when it doesn’t work out.

10. We tell ourselves that we have the rest of our lives to be in a serious relationship.

11. We think that a like on Instagram is a romantic gesture and Snapchat is a good place to flirt.

12. We drink way too much, way too often.

13. We don’t want to have to worry about what someone else wants or what they are doing.

14. We think relationships are too hard and we make it all so complicated.

15. We are too comfortable with our dating culture and we wouldn’t even know how to make a change.
