We know it is the middle of the semester when we find ourselves not having any clothes, with a closet full of them. You have already used all your pretty outfits and do not know what else to do with those staple pieces, like those galaxy leggings you own. Put your closet’s lemons to good use! Following life’s philosophy of If life gives you lemons, make lemonade, incorporate all of those bland pieces of your closet that you barely wear and give them a fun twist. The secret is in the bottoms! Different styles of pants, skirts and shorts are the key to making a headache-free closet. The amount of outfits you could create with those pieces are endless. Here are a few basic examples; go on and make your own lemonade!
1. Club t-shirt:
Club t-shirts are usually as dull as a cracker. If you are not lucky enough to be part of a club with a great shirt, you can spice it up a bit. Cut the sleeves if you want a more edgy look or pair it up with a great bottom. For this particular outfit, the t-shirt was paired with a high-waisted cotton skirt and a few accessories. Bam! You’re the best dressed on campus.
2. Boyfriend’s old t-shirt:
If you have a t-shirt loving boyfriend or friend, odds are that he has tons of shirts that do not fit or that he does not use. A quick, cheap way to upgrade your closet is by stopping by his. You can incorporate those t-shirts to your wardrobe and give them a touch of your style. For this outfit, I went with high-waisted shorts, and because the t-shirt gave it a boho-ish style, I paired it with brown accessories, resulting in an outfit that will make any neck turn!
3. Basic tank top:
I love having staple pieces in my closet, even though people may think that they are of no use because you can use it one time and never again because everybody would remember it. These pants have the convenience of being dressed up or dressed down. In this outfit, they were dressed down with just a simple tank top; tucked in or tied in a knot would work. The accessories were chosen to keep a tropical and hippie vibe.
4. Basic T-shirt:
If you see this outfit on a girl walking around campus, you will never guess that she has a basic Hanes t-shirt on. With a pair of colorful shorts, an outfit can be created without too much effort. Just add some accessories defining the style you want to go with and voilà! Dressed in under twenty minutes.
As you can see, you do not need an extensive and/or expensive closet to look great; you just have to know where to look. The staple pieces used to spice up the outfits pictured were bought in stores like Forever 21, thrift stores, and even Pac Sun has great items. Look around, do closet swaps with friends, even go into your mother’s closet–you’ll never know what surprise you may find!
