Almost on a daily basis, there are news about people taking their lives, yet before taking they often show signs that many ignore. It’s important to recognize that suicide is not a mental illness, but a serious result of one of the many mental illnesses. After researching for quite some time, here are a few of the signs that people often show when suicidal thoughts are present in their minds.

1. Excessive sadness, moodiness, hopelessness

People who have suicidal thoughts tend to have drastic mood changes without any type of explanation. This type of behavior is due to the lack of hope and excessive sadness they often reflect as a result of hidden emotions or just problems they tend to hide from everyone.

2. Dangerous Behavior

The loss of hope, the excessive sadness and moodiness may lead to dangerous behavior.

3. Withdrawal

Many victims of this horrible result of mental illness may withdraw themselves from activities, social interactions, friends, and family members. These symptoms are also related to depression where the victim doesn’t feel pleasure in activities they used to enjoy on previous occasions.

4. Social Media Content

Some people who have committed suicide gave signs of this conduct on social media. Usually people who feel suicidal have a series of pictures in black and white tones. They also, post, share or retweet sad quotes or just suicidal content. Many of people who lost their battles, also presented this topic as a type of joke and even had written goodbye letters in their messages or posted in their principal pages.

In light of Suicide Awareness Week, we will provide our readers with articles displaying narratives of thought, self-reflection, and the reality of the emotions, actions, and struggles we face as students but don’t often discuss. If you or a loved one are going through a difficult time, you’re not alone.
