Last Tuesday April 1st, the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez fans met during the universal hour at the Rafael A. Mangual for the Pep Rally of the Justas 2014. The purpose of this event was to get to know all the athletes that will be representing us in the Justas competition that will take place in Ponce on April 11,12 and 13. Colegio students are recognized for their team spirit and all the support they bring when it’s time to cheer for their athletes. That’s why I’m sure that all the members of the Justas teams are clear that the best fans that anyone could ever ask for are from the Colegio. The Mangual was filled to capacity with students singing and shouting: Antes, Ahora y Siempre Colegio! Obviously, the beloved UPRM mascot, Tarzán, couldn’t miss this event. He was very playful with all the students while they took pictures with him.
Everything started with a parranda and a long line of people looking for shirts, since free t-shirts were given to the first 750 people who arrived at the Pep Rally. After that, the cheerleaders opened the event with a dance number, giving school spirit to the entire audience. This is the time of the year where the athletes demonstrate all the effort they have put into their sport, regardless of an entire semester of classes and academic responsibilities. Athletes need to balance their time to keep good grades and practice to perform their best in bringing the championship to their alma mater. Some of the teams that are going to participate at the Justas are: judo, swimming, softball, basketball, soccer, track and field, and cheerleading. So do not miss this event and go to the Justas to support all of our teams!
