“Labios de Pasión”: A Love Song Brought to You by Jorge & Los Físicos

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

If you have been following the independent music movement in Puerto Rico you may have noticed that Jorge & Los Físicos is one of the latest up-and-coming bands on the scene. Last year they had a series of shows around the west coast and metro area of the island where they displayed their alternative rock influences, which they would later present in full in their first EP Tierra. This year seems to be a continuation of the band’s evolution and progress, as they recently played at the Ensayo in Río Piedras alongside Maryola, and for Valentine’s Day they released a live performance video of their single “Labios de Pasión” for their upcoming EP Fuego.

Featuring a red filter, the video single for “Labios de Pasión” features Jorge & Los Físicos performing the song in what seems to be a live scenario. The visual, reminiscent of the early music videos of the late 1960s and 1970s, is shot and edited in a simple manner as to not take away from the live performance from the band. In order to provide a bit of the romantic and sensual atmosphere created by the song’s music and lyrics, the environment also features roses and candles as the band performs the single. However, while the visual does give a good and simple presentation of the single, it is safe to say that the audio suffered a bit.

While the visual to “Labios de Pasión” is well shot and gives a clear glimpse of what a live Jorge & Los Físicos performance might be, one can argue that the audio quality for the video does not do justice to the song. While the instruments in the track can be heard somewhat clearly, the voice cannot be fully appreciated. However, this is not a huge problem. Independently made videos of live performances usually suffer from this. Thus, one should not be discouraged from the audio presented in this video. If one takes into consideration the quality from Los Físicos’ Tierra one can expect a better song quality. So, one can simply take this video single as a mere taste of how the band’s newest project will sound like.

The visual single to Jorge & Los Físicos’ “Labios de Pasión” is a simple live video where the band showcases their skills to make a romantic alternative pop rock song. While the video is shot and edited in a simple manner giving the audience an easy way to focus on the song, one could argue that the audio suffered. However, this should not discourage listeners as the tune seems to be simply the introduction to what will be a concept EP in the band’s upcoming release Fuego.
