The 89th Annual Academy Awards started with a glittering and gorgeous red carpet. Throughout the parade of amazing stars, living legends and triple-threats, the best of the best came out with attire completely fit for them: the best of the best. Sparkles made a comeback, there was a lot of white and gold, as well as blue tuxedos for the men. Some played it safe, while others dazzled with their presence.

1. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Giving it up for the cutest couple of the night: John Legend in Gucci and Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad. Who looked better? We may never know – that’s what being a power couple is all about! Teigen rocked it with her beaded white gown with leg slit and cape, and husband Legend looked dapper as ever in his bow tie and classic tux. Later in the night, Legend rocked our world with his rendition of “City of Stars,” which would go on to win for Best Original Song, and “Audition” both from La La Land.

Relationship cutie-pie goals

2. Ezra Edelman

Next up. Ezra Edelman made quite a splash on the red carpet with an all-black tux. An amazing look for the Oscar-winner for best documentary feature.

3. The stars of Hidden Figures

There was plenty of Black Girl Magic on the red carpet. They all rocked our worlds with their gorgeously dazzling gowns. Part of the cast of the Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae were the epitome of beautiful. Henson, in Alberta Ferretti was an sensual as Marilyn Monroe (maybe even more). Monae in Elie Saab was like an intergalactic princess. She made a wise choice going with Saab, one of the best designers.

4. Viola Davis

Mama Viola Davis as I like to call her, slayed with her red gown. A completely classy dress for a classy woman who made history that night with her win.

5. Sunny Pawar

Let’s talk about the little man that melted our hearts, Sunny Pawar! Part of the cast of Oscar nominated film, Lion. This little kid enjoyed the night in his rocking tux and was even part of Jimmy Kimmel’s Lion King moment during the ceremony.

6. Leading Men: Viggo Mortensen and Casey Affleck

Both nominated for Best Actor, Viggo Mortensen in Dior (top) and Case Affleck in Louis Vuitton (bottom). Let’s all agree that both men look amazing in their bow ties. Mortensen has that James Bond sort of look yet “sexy older man” that very few people can nail. Affleck looks like a complete fittie in his Louis Vuitton which does not help at all due to the fact that you can get lost in his gaze.

7. Ava DuVernay

Ava Du Vernay wore a gown from Ashi Studio. As an act of solidarity, she chose this gown from Lebanese designer, from a Muslim country, making a political statement even before the ceremony began.

8. Ladies in white: Priyanka Chopra and Hailee Steinfeld

Did I tell you white was the color of the night or did I tell you? Priyanka Chopra (upper left) in a Ralph and Russo gown looked stunning in the geometric shape. Hailee Steinfeld ( upperright) in a Ralph and Russo Couture proves yet again how she never lets us down with her gowns. Darby Stanchfied in Georges Chakra (lower left) is a vision in white and Dev Patel (lower right) struck the perfect balance between black and white.

9. Babes in Blue Velvet

Riz Ahmed in Zegna (left) and Chris Evans (right) are rocking the blue look. Let’s also mention how Evans brought her sister as his date again, officially making him the best sibling ever.

10. Nude Hues

Sting (left) with his wife has a look that make him look years younger. Nicole Kidman in a custom Armani Privé (right) rocked a complete open back and peach colored gown that wowed us all.

11. Oohh La La Land

The lady of the night, Emma Stone arrived at the Red Carpet in a Givenchy gown. A gown that seemed to go hand in hand with her nomination for La La Land, which was a sort of revival of old Hollywood. Stone brought her brother as date, joked about him being her good luck charm and he turned out to be just that! Ryan Gosling in Gucci ruffles was definitely the highlight. Some will joke about the outdated ruffles he wore but let’s face it, Gosling can wear anything and we won’t quite care!

Damien Chazelle, director of La La Land and youngest person to win an Oscar for best directing arrived at Dolby Theater with his girlfriend who also turned out to be his good luck charm!

12. True ACLU Blue

However, what ruled the Red Carpet as the hottest accessory of the night was the Blue Ribbon. Nominees such as Ruth Negga as well as Barry Jenkins and Busy Philipps, Michelle William’s BFF and date, and model Karlie Kloss, were among some of the stars that pinned the blue ribbon on their outfits.

These ribbons were worn in support for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) with its initiative “Stand with ACLU.” Our very own Puerto Rican Lin-Manuel Miranda expressed how “I’m wearing an ACLU ribbon because they’re fighting incredible fights right now for American ideals.” Activism walked on the Oscars’ Red Carpet.
